Australia is a nation, not a world region or "block". What you actually mean is Oceania, or the South Pacific. (If you only refer to Australia, you're leaving out New Zealand, PNG, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, the Solomons, and many others).

I'm a student in cultural studies beginning to specialise in that part of the world, so I do get slightly annoyed when people use the word 'Australia' to refer to such a vast and diverse region of the world.

Yeah, but should Turkey be a part of Europe when only 1/7 of the country is actually in Europe (as defined geographically, along the ural mountains, the caucasian mountains, the baltic sea and it's bosphorus).

There is such a great difference culturally and socially. I am by no mean a racist but Europe is mainly christian (apart from some adriatic states), while East Asia is mainly Sunni and Shi'a Islamic.

Language wise too. European languages are distinctly different, being Eurasian as opposed to Turkish, which is Altic.

This brings up the argument, should Turkey be allowed to join the EU later?

note: nearly all these points are true with Russia too (except religion). For these two countries that are in two continents how are they meant to be classified, or maybe the Euro-Asian border should be re-drawn, along country borders, not geological features?

The entire world should be part of one communist bloc.

It can also be called Autralisia, although this is less correct. :)
