Boondock Saints

Okay. I'm an Irish American and a big fan of the motion picture, Boondock Saints (http://www.theboondocksaints.com)

So I'll open with this. Is it a great movie in your opinion?

Is it, as some claim, the Irish (or Irish American) man's Rocky?

What are your thoughts in the idea that sequel (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0330083) might be coming out?

I tend to watch this movie about once a month. That's how bloody good it is.

Saw it for the first time, this summer.

Loved it.

Billy Connely rocks.

The best scene was cut out of the final film though.

If you have the dvd version, look for "Mom Calls from Ireland," in the deleted scenes.

Frickin hilarious!

Of course, Willem Dafoe was awsome as well.

Great movie, i saw the rough cut. I always liked mixing violence and fun.

I haven't seen it. Bittorrent to the rescue later tonight, I suppose...

How is that this movie escaped the public eye for so long?

It is probably, (in my opinion) better than most Quentin Tarantino films (excluding Resevoir Dogs).

It's an OK movie, not great, but certainly better than most of the crap that passes for movies nowadays. Maybe I'd have enjoyed it more if I was of Irish descent, but from my point of view it was still decent and worth a viewing.

I thought it was pretty good. A few scenes were just dumb, but all in all a kick-ass fun movie.

I thought this was a great movie. Like most people that have seen the film, I was not aware of it until it came out on DVD. (I TOTALLY agree about the phone call with mum scene, CLASSIC) If I remember correctly, it had the misfortune of bad timing when it was due to hit the theaters. I believe that was around the time of the Columbine school shootings by the "trench coat mafia" kids. Most theaters in the States refused to show it. Sad, really, considering one has nothing to do with the other. There was this big push to blame all violent media, especially video games, for the actions of these troubled teens. It was brought up over and over how much they played DOOM and how that must of encouraged them to take up arms in their school halls. Now, of course, they are making a motion picture based on the game DOOM, so I guess timing is everything. That, or another school massacre is forthcoming. Only time will tell. :mp5:

Back on topic, I don't know about the Rocky comparison. Could it be your The Godfather?

i saw it a few years ago. And i liked it. I wouldn't watch it once a month, but once a year is nice ;P

ppl say that the scene in the airduct reminded them of me and my bro :P

Ahhh, but the best line ever:

"Shut your fatass, Rayvie. I cant buy a pack of smokes without runnin into 9 guys you've fucked!"

And of course, no one tells a joke better than Rocco...

It's one of very few movies I can actually watch more than once a week and still enjoy every time. In some respects, I'm glad it never became a big hit movie...it's that much more fun when a line from the movie is inserted into a normal conversation (and there's a line for any conversation). It's quite interesting to see who recognizes the line and who doesnt. Try it some time...

I enjoy it.

If I ever see it nice and cheap then I'm buying it... I don't buy DVDs at full price no matter how great the movie is. I simply can't afford it.

I have used the lines:

"Oh...and what's this Rambo?"

and

"Rope...why do we need a fuckin' rope?"

Several inappropriate times usually with my Irish accent. People look at you like you're retarded if they've never seen it...if they have they just crack up.

LOL

I prefer "Why dont you make like a tree and get the FUCK outta here?"

or

"People in glass houses sink ships..."

Although, 'I killed your cat, you druggie bitch...I thought it'd bring closure to our relationship' is great for breaking up with a girl. Just replace "Killed your cat" with whatever is appropriate.

I dont either...but this is one of the 7-8 DVDs I own. It's well worth paying full price for.

Because "you druggie bitch" is always appropriate? I think I may have stumbled upon your trouble, lad. ;)

I'm still concerned about the sequel. I figure with a movie this good, it's either gonna suck (See The Matrix) or it will be different enough to make it an entirely different.

Best line is Rocco's:

"Is it dead?"

You have to have seen the film to get it, of course.

I felt sad after watching the movie. I spent eight years learning to become a microsurgeon and after seeing Boondock Saints I reaslized that if I had simply stuck a hot iron into my patient's wounds they'd be up and walking around the next day.

Duffy keeps saying it will happen, but I don't think so. Principal photography was supposed to have been done two years ago.

Can we say "devolpement hell"?

Of course, I love that friggin movie.

I'm afraid that I enjoyed the first half of the movie but it left a bad taste in my mouth at the end. The movie works on the level of a comic book fantasy, but when it appears to suggest that comic book vigilantism is a good idea in real life it shatters the willing suspension of disbelief that people who don't actually want to gun people down in real life have to generate to enjoy action movies.

That Movie is Awesome and I have watched it like 5 times since I bought it. The part where they accidentally shoot the cat reminds me of that Scene in Pulp Fiction in the Car. Also, Did anyone else feel like becoming a Vigilante after watching this movie because I did.

I thought it was an excellent movie. I typically dont like action movies, but this one was quite unique. However, I dont see how anyone could compare this to Rocky in any way. Whoever is making that comparison must be an idiot.

Not an idiot. I think when he said it he meant it was inspirational to Irish Americans like Rocky is inspirational to Italians. Which are both moderate observations, really.

...I think when he said it he meant it was inspirational to Irish Americans like Rocky is inspirational to Italians...

I love a good action movie as much as the next guy, but "inspiration" implies "role-model" and I would like to think that anything that inspired me (as opposed to entertained me) would come with a smaller body count.

...Also, Did anyone else feel like becoming a Vigilante after watching this movie because I did...

See, that's what I am talking about. That kind of statement actually gives validity to the censorship nazis that want to blame movies and video games for real life murders. :headbang:

I just watched it for the first time two days ago. My favorite quote had to be "I'm Irish, I don't get drunk." :p
