personally, i think terrorism will end within 5-10 years, unless the USA gets into another war besides Afghanistan and Iraq...

Well, depends on your definition of terrorism. Mine's rather broad.

terrorism will never end... i agree, but now we are in the golden age of terrorism, mainly from the Middle East and Central Asia, which they beleive that they are fighting USA policies against the Muslim world, which is bullcrap...i think...

i think it will end when the USA realizes that it needs t change its politics against the world and stop treating them in a superiority point of view....

the muslims right now see the West as invaders against islam, because of there politics in mostly Muslim Zones, Palestine-Israel, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Chechniya and other places in Africa... and poverty helps alot...

Terrorism will end when self-interest is quashed.

Frankly, never. The word has been bandyed around so much now that it has lost all meaning- the oppressed, disadvantaged, and disenfranchised are all labelled 'terrorists' by a state because it is an easy way to crack down on dissent.

Terrorism will forever be linked to poverty, dissillusionment, fear and self determination- amongst others. When these are resolved- then maybe terrorism will disappear- in other words.... don't hold your breath :(

Terrorism is a tactic as old as humanity itself. It will never end. The weak will always want a way to fight effectively against the overwhelmingly strong.

In my opinin, its down to the individual- their outlook on others, their fears, resentments and insecurites being let go....

Certainly not in my lifetime! :(

terrorism is a word with a new meaning in america. fundamentally i think its caused by people having less than others, nothing new. there is only one way that this will end, when everyone can have everything that they want. i mean this purely in a freedom and basic needs sense. the only way this is going to fly is with one thing, and i know its a long way away: replicators. if you know what they are, you know what they do, and if they ever come about, that will be the end of terrorism.

The first time the word terorist came was related to the revolutionary french goverment.
Arafat and Mandela are Nobel prize winners for peace and terrorists.
Terrorism will be around as long media keeps giving attention to it.

Finally, a U.N. resolution that I could vote for. It should be punishable by death of course.

terroism will end with one of 3 main out comes, the extiction of the human race, be it the sun, or wwIII.

if we find someone else to shoot (aliens for example)

or if someone like the US, kills lots of people and instills a totlatrian regime in which the only reall punisment is dead, nad it happens alot (oo people will want to blow them selves up but if they fail they will have all kindsa pain and stuff, which is a very good deterent, and im shore governments can come up with other things) all you need to do is give people a fate worse than death to be afraid of and death loses its fear (hence no blowing one's self up

and before anyone gets offended, im not american so i dont want them to tule the world, but from what i see there alot closer to the whole kill terroism with terror thing than most countrys, like say the uk and its, i know we will make a sociaty where people can call them self british, and muslim and still kill british muslims in the name of fredom (while takeing money from the government to go to uni)


o ya and btw the sun should have gotten too hot and killed us all about 4.5 billion years ago, but we happen to be on a really cool planet which desides to do things like get hit by metors and stuff just at the right time to alow some life to survie and evolve. the liekly hood is in 1 billion years earth wont even be a forgotten legand anymore, if we dont get off this rock in under 1000 years theres not likly to be mush left

I agree but more pessimistically. I would say may be 10-15 years, maybe even 20. I'm thinking about the kind of random/suicide bombing, plane hijacking terrorism that al Qaida uses. Separatist terrorists like ETA and state terrorism, such as "ethnic cleansing" will always be going on somewhere as long as there is such a thing as prejudice and inequality. But al Qaida style terrorism is tiring, expensive, and totally ineffective, and I just don't see a population maintaining its willingness to sacrifice its children to it for any very long period of time. It will wind itself down, as long as the US and other target powers don't keep feeding the propaganda engines with stupid and corrupt policies. It will wind down, several years of relative safety will ensue, and then some other nut will start it again.

I do think a strong governmental response to terrorism is required, because these new terrorists seem intent on fomenting international war and that is why they strive for such big, devastating attacks. We can't just wait for them to lose followers. I think the right response is to treat terrorism as a simple crime (mass murder) and not give it the political legitimacy of "terrorism."
