Swiss, German, Austrian and Belgian chocolate... worldfamous for a very, very good reason. And Hersheys hardly classifies as chocolate, to be honest. I tried it once, it's not good at all.
i've gone to spain, for a school exchange... twas weird being an exchange student for 2 weeks, i've also gone to france which was pretty good, but they did criticise my french speeching :( , and i have gone to italy, which was, though very expensive, absolutely fantastic! :D

I've moved to Sweden from the US and there isn't much over there that you can't get over here. There is a surprising lack of hispanic restaurants, but they sell the stuff in the stores so you can make some bitchin tacos of your own at home. They do have avacados, and salsa so you can make the guac. About the fruit? They sell fruit in convienance stores as well as the grocery stores...which takes a lot of effort, really, cause very rarely do you find any fruit that's bad. The veggies in the stores are higher quality too (I don't know if they're actually any different, but they're watched over more by the staff and you don't get the nasty stuff as often - I have never had my finger go *squish* into a fruit or veggie here in the stores), but things like canned and boxed foods don't have as much variety as you do in the states. They also have Pringles in the stores, but not many other types of chips.

No way those would sell in Europe. Stores in the UK have little stickers on their products "no GM" (genetically manipulated) to advertise it.
As far as I know, Germany is still trying to prevent gm food from being sold at all, despite EU law on the matter...

If my conversions are accurate, that would be pretty steep, yep.. But in any case, it's just the low demand out here that keeps high-quality stuff out of the big supermarkets, not any deficiency of natural resources.. that's bad if you're visiting for the weekend and don't know where to go, to be sure, but there's always alternatives. :)

Kinder Surprise are perfectly legal here in Cacanada. I collect them. Sometimes I'll go out an buy and entire case of them :D The Koreans who own the neighbourhood convenience store think I'm crazy but love me for it. [/HIJACK]
Well, a couple of years ago there were maggots found instead of toys in the Kinder-things. Sales dropped quite a bit...
I live in Sweden, been to Finland, Denmark, Germany and Holland. I've only actually stayed in Holland for more than a couple of hours (been there a total of 8 weeks), unlike the other countries (Finland 'bout 13 hrs, Denmark 2-3 hrs, Germany 7 hrs.), so I might not have much to compare with, but my god Amsterdam's big! And great food, too. Great mexican (the only places you can find decent mexican in Sweden is in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö, so it´s a 2 hour drive from here).
My sister (who's been here and there - including the US, Canada, Egypt etc.) claims Sweden is better, especially the water apparently.
And someone said we had few kinds of chip. That's not quite true, I think. We don't have many brands and we might not have as many flavours as in the US, but I think we've got a lot of chips.

For my 2c worth:
NZ milk products are far superior to anything else in the world. Where my parents live some farmers bought the old dairy factory and produce their own milk, in little plastic bags for 1/2 the price (about $1NZ /litre) of what the behemoth dairy company Fonturra sells for.
Because of this quality, I have to say Fellmann's chocolates are the best I've ever tried. Fellman is a Swiss chocolateur who lives near Christchurch (in a little place called Geraldine) and his handmade chocs are simply divine. Since being here in HK, I've had the opportunity to try lots of different fresh Swiss and Belgian chocs (there's lots of Choc shops here) and none compare. On top of it all, Fellmann's chocs are less than 1/2 the price. $50NZ /kg (about $35US/$20 Euros) for handmade pralines. That's about 90 pralines btw. Do yourself a favour if you ever get to NZ and are heading thru Geraldine - stop and buy some chocs.
I get him to send mine over. Last time I was in NZ I bought 3 kgs back with me. Lasted about a fortnight. uhhh...........

We've got plenty of good cheese... You just have to know where to buy it (Delicatessons). Chocolate? Well, Hershey's and Nestle are shit, but most good supermarkets have imported chocolate (Lindt, Ritter Sport, etc.).
Unless you're traveling through no-man's land (Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, etc.), you'll find a lot of good chocolate and cheese.

Yes, well I've even left Europe. In fact I've been to every continent except Australia.
I've also never been to Switzerland.
Firstly I would like my digust noted that you have refered to Australia as a continent. Some people call the continent Australasia, which I do not agree with, but the name I prefer would be Oceania although the Pacific is also fine. Australia is not the only country in this continent. There are many other countries, and I should know, living most of my life in New Zealand, but the countries of the Pacific cannot be left out either.
Currently I live in Switzerland although I had travelled several times through Europe before moving away from New Zealand. Central Europe and the Germanic area is easily my favourite part. Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland. I also hear Hungary and the former Czechoslovakia area is nice.

ever fallen in love with someone
you shouldn't have fallen in love with?
I have been to Europe a couple of times. Sweden, Finland, Moscow, Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Luxembourg, and Iceland.
It was all great. As far as the time of my life...that has yet to be seen. I'll let you know when I retire.

Well, i've lived in germany for a total of 3 years of my life. I like the place a lot, the north more than the south but thats just me.
If you drew a line down from sweden to Italy's eastern border, I've been to pretty much every country bar spain and portugal in western europe and liked lots about each of them. But the one thing is, i don't think there is ever a place like home.
The U.K. has its problems sure, but would i swap it for any other country right now? Nope.
Granted Sweden, Norway and Ireland are 'better' places to live, but they ain't home so i'm sticking here for now :D

I find the American surprise at a lack of Mexican food in Europe rather incongruous. After all, it's not like foreigners go to America and demand to know where all the Russian restaurants are....
