Does any of you people know of any decent less-than-£30 MP3 players/iPods? I was wanting to buy a good one but the really good iPods that also have screens are mostly over £100 and I only have 30 or so pounds. :(

I snagged a 1 GB jumpdrive/MP3 player/Voice Recorder for a $1 on ebay. Ships from hong Kong and the shipping is a bit but for a buck it isn't bad...

That's good but doesn't really help. :( :(

It sucks only having £30
Edit: Bummer. I'll never get an iPod. Why doesn't the signature show? I have it set so that it would

How does that not help? Just check ebay. You should be able to nail a good deal there

Your better off holding off until you can get a good ipod or a mp3 player. Most of the cheap stuff breaks (not that iPods don't), but at least with the ipods they're under warrenty for a bit.

My mp3 player is from sandisk, and it uses cruzer mini USB disks. Cost me around $60 for the player, found a 512 mb disk for $30, so not quite as cheap as £30, but close. And of course, costs of more USB disks increase, but it's still cheaper than buying most ipods.

Good deal my ass there isn't any iPod that I could buy. Plus I only get £120 a year. Stupid parents making me buy all the videogames etc by myself.
edit: Sandisk? Sandisk.com? sandisk.co.uk? sandisk.guv?

My god you're funny. No, really, you are. You should do stand up.
Your only chance is the e-bay thing. Or:
buy a crowbar (a crappy one) a balaclava, some gloves and a massive plastic raincoat. Break into a shop, and voila, one mp3 player. Just remember to tell the police: Heron-Marked Warriors made me do it.

Don't bother with an iPod anyway. The batteries have to be replaced in about a year, and if the screen breaks you pretty much have to buy a new one (unless you have the service pack Best Buy offers, in which case they give a pretty sweet warantee and also take into account the battery replacement). Just get a comparative, smaller mp3 player.

If the screen breaks, it's generally under warrenty. Apple is nice about that.

Not with mine. I tried to send it back and they tried to claim that the faulty screen was in some way my fault. Because it's so easy to see that if I've only had it for about three weeks, and I haven't really abused it AT ALL, nor has it been in the sun or extreme heat, I've totally had opportunity AND intent to ruin my own investment

In my opinion that falls under abuse, ergo no, I didn't drop it. Half the screen just quit working, it just wouldn't show the display.

Eh, they've never gotten pissy with me and I've sent it back twice (once for HD failure, once for headphone-hard drive access noise)

Maybe they just hate chicks whose screens break......?

Screen breakage does seem to happen quite a bit, and I guess mostly it's the fault of people doing things like dropping them down the stairs, so they just didn't believe you. Eh.

Well my boyfriend works for Geek Squad, so he took it in and convinced them to let me trade it in for store credit, I just haven't gotten around to cashing in the credit yet. I'm still determining whether I'd rather get a new MP3 player or put it towards another digital camcorder.

An ipod? Why? £80 more for something of equivalent use? Hmmm...oh, and in the last year, ipods are the single most stolen item in street muggings (besides cash) in the UK, because of the distinctive earphones. Now that's something they don't tell you...

When you can afford it, get a Creative Zen. iPods are style over substance.

Why would you say that? They do cost a bit, but I ended up getting mine for next to nothing (just have to look hard enough), and their substance is quite good for a minimalist like me (though they're going nuts now. I think I'm going to switch once my old buddy gives out [1 1/2 years and going strong], I mean color? Who gives a crap about color)

No decent Mp3 players is even under 50 pounds
The cheapest there is is the 500MB iPOD shuffle. Most other players cost as much as that with 128MB or less.

Why do people use the damn ear phones? There was an article in our school paper saying replace the headphones with something else, people still walk around with the iPod headphones and have their iPod just sitting out wherever they are.

I'll second that.
Plus iTunes is the shittiest software. Creative Jukebox is fairly decent, easy to learn etc.

The Rio Carbon (5/6 GB I think) seemed a good iPod alternative but I was reading the other day that Rio have stopped making mp3 players, sold the business or something. So I don't really know why I'm writing this, but meh...
My friend had gotten a Sony 20GB MP3...around the same cost as the 20GB iPod but it had way more stuff in it...
