I have a question for punks: how do ye keep 'em up?
I ask this 'cause I want to know the most effective thing (please add how long it keeps together and how long yer hair is)

I use regular bar soap, it smells okay but if it rains ye get soap in yer eyes and ye can't see an all that

a guy i went to collage with used carpenters glue on his, and eventually manage to spike it a foot and a half, it was an impressive sight. the trouble was, carpenters glue never washes all the way out, apperantly, so he had to continually respike it, until finally his hair started coming apart and he had to shave it...

Years ago I had a mohawk. Only put it up once. Three foot liberty spikes. Three feet, I tell ya. Used about ten different products, including glue. It was kinda tough to drive like that, though. Had to stick my head out the window!

Egg whites... But you have to careful when you wash them out because if the water is too warm they'll cook into your hair... and then you'll have a big scrambled mess.. and plug up your drain.

For a >4" one, soap will do it. It only takes a minute or two to set it, and even less to get it out.

For a 12+" (mine is about 14") you can either use hair spray (which works for about 2 hours, is expensive & smells like shite), egg whites mixed with sugar, or gelatine.

The egg whites shit is not reccomendable. It's very hard to do and it's beyond messy. The hairspray thing isn't really an option at all, since it's too expensive & only lasts half a day (at the very most). If you have a hairdryer handy, gelatine will get you sorted in 10-15 minutes. It's strong enough to last at least a week, and if you repair it every few days, it will last forever. I strongly reccomend not leaving it in for more than 3-4 weeks though. Hair needs air on occation, or it'll start falling off.

There's all sorts of other shit you can use in a pinch, but only the three above are recomendable. Don't use PVA glue. It's not toxic or anything, but it's impossible to get out, and it will make you loose your hair. Take my word for it...

When I had a mohawk I just used 2 books, hairspray and a hairdryer. I could bring it down daily for work and put it up into spikes at night. It was a lot of work.

I knew a guy who lamenated his hawk. Burned his scalp temporarily but stayed for about a month.
