Anyone from Florida here? Some big mass of destruction might be head your way.

Ophelia is Greek for "Help".

I actually heard not ten minutes ago on TV that it was expected to take a hard left into North Carolina from where it is right now.

Forget that if you read it before I changed it. It is supposed to become a Cat 1 soon. I'm not sure it's there yet.

No, but mother nature can't be counted on to be predicted as we have all found out.

Ophelia will not cause any damage to Florida, beyond some beach erosion.

I predict that the storm shall com ashore no further South than the North/Soth Carolina border. No big Ivan Loop, no sudden 90 degree left turn to slam Jacksonville, no just drifting on shore.

Ophelia is nothing. The east coast catches TS's and Cat 1's all through Hurricane Season and they just cause small amounts of wind damage and soak everything.

Heh, the professionals predicted otherwise; then again, they have been wrong before.

Hope you're right. Cat 1 and 2 aren't really a threat. 3 or 4 means trouble and 5 means praying to higher powers for Mercy.

Yes, Ophelia is headed (very approximately) my way. Luckily I'm far enough inland that all I'll see is lots of rain.

The good news is that O has dropped to just below hurricane strength. It's nowhere near as powerful as Katrina, and won't be.

The bad news is that O is moving extraordinarily slowly. Which means, first, that it could come ashore anywhere between Savannah, GA and Morehead City, NC. And second, these weak storms, for whatever reason, tend to have more rain than the bigger ones, and since it's moving slow, wherever it does come ashore, it will probably drop a whole lot of rain in one spot. There will probably be some serious local flooding.
