From a recent peek at Yahoo! News...
Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown is being relieved of his command of the Bush administration's Hurricane Katrina onsite relief efforts,
Homeland Security Secretary
Michael Chertoff announced Friday.
He will be replaced by Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad W. Allen, who was overseeing New Orleans relief and rescue efforts, Chertoff said.

Ya, but that doesn't mean he's fired. He should be fired!

Being 'relieved of command' is the same as being fired. It's just an euphenism.
[edit]
Not the same in this case, you're right, but he will have to leave FEMA. I'll bet he doesn't last the week.

Another George Tenet. He'll fall on his sword and business will go on as usual. Now, an *independent* investigation of the failures would be a second baby step in the right direction.

I agree with Stephistan! He should be fired from his job. Maybe it'll happen soon.
Chertof (sp?) alone relieved Brown of his Katrina duties! Hopefully that'll help get him canned.
I doubt it though :(
I'd take him down, the governor of Louisiana, and the mayor. Get those three clowns out and put some competent people in their places.

I have way more respect for George Tenet than Michael Brown. Tenet at least had some credentials for his job.

What a surprise. There is a national crisis and the head of the department that fails the most gets sacked so the administration can keep face (after all, there is always more than one bureaucrat fucking up)

I like to separate these issues. The head of FEMA was really truly bad at his job. He should be fired for incompetence. Do I believe the president is really truly bad at his job? That's for another 1000 threads to discuss.
