Treatment of Looters from New Orleans

Well they aren't shooting enough of them. But they are putting them in 'jail'. The latest news I've read (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-09-08-camp-greyhound_x.htm) is that a bus station in New Orleans is now home to about 200 looters.

Since the terminal was taken over by law enforcement authorities, it has become the new face of justice in this devastated city. More than 220 people have been detained there before being moved elsewhere to await trial. Most of those passing through Camp Greyhound have been accused of looting, but there also have been a few accused killers and rapists, said Burl Cain, a state prison warden who oversees the jail.

Do you think we will see the end of the day, today, before someone starts comparing this to Gitmo or Abu Graib (sp?)?

I understand that MoveOn.org and Camp Crazy (Cindy Sheehan prop.) have located near New Orleans to bask in the media attention. I'm sure one of these groups will be the first to make the comparison.

If they're surviving by looting, fine. If they're taking advantage of others, I have no sympathy if they are purged. If they take advantage of others by stealing guns and people's things, they are probably capable of murder.

They should all be summarily shot, or hung, I'm not all that concerned

We've pretty well done the 'shoot the looters' discussion to death. I just wanted to be the first to recognize that somewhere an angry leftist will decide to get attention by comparing this jail to a prision holding terrorists. Maybe it's going to be Howard Dean. He seems to be a few cards short, lately.

That means there's now trial to justify the arrest (not that there needs to be under martial law). The fact that they're being detained long enough to wait for the situation to cool and the accusations to be investigated isn't exactly all that bad.

There will be some liberals who will whine that those stealing guns and raping people aren't on the streets shooting rescue personel and raping women. Why? Because it's all Bush's fault these people became dependant on government handouts. It's all Bush's fault some kids are being kept out of schools out of county. It's all Bush's fault that the remaining school buses weren't used to get people out of town. Yes, the same Bush that ordered the mandatory evacuation. Why is all that Bush's fault to them? Because they are liberal and Bush is not. It's all about this game called politics, where one side tries to keep the other side from doing anything so they can point fingers at them. Yes, the same 2 party system that kept dictators at bay is also hurting not only the Katrina victims, but victims in general. It's all this "they're incompitent because we don't like them" BS that's causing both liberals and conservatives to point fingers instead of doing anything useful for a change. If there is an investigation, it should be done by those outside of the political arena so there isn't any "they're the cause because they're evil and we are god so worship us and kill them and their families".

I just adore fraudulent, hysterical, ineptly disguised political comment. Incidentally, would you apportion culpability upon Bush if the easter bunny was shot?
