I've been trying to use soulseek but for some reason it doesn't want to play with me, is there any better file sharing program out there?

There isn't a better one but bittorrent is also popular.

Which firewall are you running, if any?

Do you have Windows SP2?

Well if you go to the problems part of the website you might find something that helps.

if you haven't opened the ports the program uses for incoming data in your firewall's settings, then this could explain why the program doesn't work (more help should be avalable at the help pages for the thing, like RFP says)

OR it could be your ISP though its unlikely. i found out recently, after setting everything else up fine (and finding my p2p and bitorrent progs worked fine round a friend's place) that that my ISP had disabled filesharing without my knowing... so i have now moved ISP ;)

eMule if you're on Windows, aMule if you're on anything else (there is a Windows version of aMule, but it's not as pretty or stable as eMule.)

Not great for individual tracks, but for large files (like archives of entire albums), it's the best I've seen.

Disclaimer: I in no way support illegal whatevers.

I found eMule useless for music, but great for obscure games.

Really? I've found every other filesharing program useless for the music I like. I'm a big Euro-Metal fan, and I just can't find it on other networks, and it's bloody hard and bloody expensive to buy down here in my corner of Australia.

It is good for obscure games, though. I got both TESL: Battlespire and TESA: Redguard from it, and I couldn't find them anywhere else.

<--- *points to his location* I know the feeling. :p

I can't recommend Soulseek enough, then. There isn't much stuff that you can't find on there.

Heh, it's comparatively easy for you. You live in a comsopolitan, Eastern States capital! I live in a puny West Aussie regional town. Getting anything even remotely obscure here is damn near impossible.

But I shall certainly check out Soulseek, then. Or at least a client that uses that network, if there's no official Linux client.

Ah yeah...pretty isolated. Still, living in Melbourne isn't that much of an advantage for rare stuff. I'm getting into a lot of stoner rock stuff...the only real option if I want albums is eBay. (the exchange rate is good right now, so you might want to look at ordering stuff from the US...it'll only cost you between $20 and $30 if you use paypal.)

Yeah, Ive bought a few albums from the US in the past, but only the more mainstream stuff is ever released there. If I want the more obscure stuff, which I really like, I have to buy direct from Europe, which is insanely expensive at the moment (shipping cost alone is pretty immense.)
