From Overseas, Disbelief at Katrina Relief Efforts (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9238394/)

And I quote:

Germany, 25 tons of food rations and more on the way.
Mexico sent bottled water.
France, Red Cross workers flew to Baton Rouge to join in the relief effort.
Afghanistan pledged a hundred thousand dollars
Kuait Pledged gasoline
Singaporeans are now flying rescue helicopters over New Orleans
Cuba offered doctors and nurses and medical supplies

And my personal favorite?

Sri Lanka, itself a victim of a national disaster during the tsunami (less than a year ago) offered $25,000 to the Red Cross, all it could afford?

End quote

This doesn't count the numbers of other countries, or individuals in those countries whom have sent donations to our own assistance agencies.

I know that I'm not in New Orleans, and that it's not adequate, but Thank You for supporting those in need - regardless of religion, race, creed, or color - you have seen an overwhelming HUMAN need and generously responded.

Perhaps there is hope for us to have world peace yet... If only we can remember that we're all just people in the end.....

Afghanistan pledged a hundred thousand dollarsThis oen touched my heart a bit. It sounds gay, but the fact a country that has so little would give so much. It's like that Bible story of the widow. Good on you Afganistan.

You forgot Venesuela.

She's offered - twice - to send cheap oil and supplies to the disaster area.

I also like to thank the World Community for your assistance in this time of need.

It is much appreciated.

Why is it that we show our love and compassion only when we are met with disasters? Wouldn't it be a whole lot nicer if we did that all the time? :fluffle:

I agree it would be terrific if we could do this all the time. Unfortunately, pride and everything won't let us but lending a helping hand to those in need is one that spans politics.
