First it was the directives NOT to count dead Iraqis. Then it was the moratorium on allowing people to see the cost to Americans by refusing to allow the showing of coffins - even if the family members WANTED their child's sacrifice to be seen.

Poor, poor Americans just can't handle it I guess. Too.....ugly.

Now you can't even see the cost of domestic tragedy as FEMA puts out a bulletin (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-photos7sep07,1,5455941.story?coll=la-headlines-nation&ctrack=1&cset=true) telling the press that no pictures of the dead from the Hurricane are to be displayed once recovery efforts are underway.

Because ignorance is STILL bliss to the "beautiful minds" (http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0429-11.htm) of the country I guess...

And I say that it's easier to avoid the hard questions if the country hasn't really grasped the impact of an event in human terms. And hiding that impact is policy these days.

after all, all references to the World Trade Center were removed in any and most forms of media because they didn't want anyone "traumatized" by any reminders. (how many people remember the orignal trailer to "Spider-man")

Sports franchise can't use certain terms because they're suddenly "Offensive"

Harsh sounding conditions are softened and hyphenated so that they don't seem so severe.

The World Trade Center?

What.... did something happen there?

Oh my poor, poor beautiful mind..... please clean up the world for me before I have to look at it.

From the outside looking in (England to the U.S.), there seems to be a big problem with censorship over there.
I've watched reports made by Fox News and until the last couple of days they didn't really talk to any of the victims of Katrina as much as even our own English news has (the BBC and Channel 4 News has been pretty good).

It just seems that if the political agenda fits in with the government, then it's a full exposure onto a person's or family's life and current situation.
Was Terri Schiavo's family spared the public eye? No, because that could be turned into votes for Bush.

If every possible step was taken to prevent the catastophe that happened then there would be no blame to be put anywhere, other than on Katrina. Then all deaths would of been highlighted by the government for sympathy.
That isn't the case because those deaths will only highlight where people faultered before the Katrina hit.

Just my 2 pence.

Censorship, propaganda, spin -- it's all crazy talk. They're crazy, I tell you. And they're trying to make us crazy too.

Well, seeing as half of us probably already are crazy, and a good many others aren't in the right mind most days, I think they're doing a damn good job at....whatever it was they're trying to do.

I just try not to keep my mind too much on the internal news sources. If it ain't coming back to the US from the UK or any other external broadcasting corporation, I probably don't want to hear it. It's probably a half-lie, anyway.
