Since Auctions and Competitions are now concidered spam,
Im thinking we should have a brainstorm of what lighthearted threads we could have to break up the religion and politics threads??

come on people, we need somewhere to relax in without having to think.

Are they actually considered spam? My understanding of it was that it was ok until it degenerated into people posting random snippets. Although I think it might be an idea for a Mod to give us a clear statement on it.

Other than that...I don't know. Fun threads are so hard to come by.

This forum has so many cool people on it who are good to talk to, and this forum has had some great moments, yet for some reason the powers-that-be are pushing really hard for it to remain firmly and only a political board like the billions of others on the net where the same topics get discussed ad nauseam.

when we asked in moderation the thread got locked and tink got a forum ban, ofcourse she did go alittle far.

so im taking that as were not going to get a reason, and any following threads will have the same fate

In all fairness that thread did go slightly off-track in places, though I think that the mods overreacted a tad. This place often reminds me of another forum I once used to visit, the administrator of which closed it down and deleted the database because one member insulted him.

However, I've never understood what harm these variable topic threads do to anyone in the first place. I mean, go to any forum and a thread where people just talk amongst themselves is treated as 'spam' and closed down as such. But why? What's wrong with a group of people who know each other having a chat about various things so long as they just keep it in one thread? There's no reason for it whatsoever. I have no idea where the idea of closing such threads on-sight came from, but nearly all forums do it.

I just added that I don't actually agree with this principle anyway to my post as you were writing that :). I can just see why the moderators might have closed it down. Unless there's some on-going grudge I don't know about. Or care about. But I still don't know where this 'spam' rule came from in the first place.

I'm completely new here and don't know the history, but why can't we have a general politics forum and a general general forum, if it's that important to them?

I mean, I agree, what difference does it make if the conversation wanders, as long as it doesn't wander into other threads? I kind of like it that way; seems more like a party... :(

We used to have both on one forum, but on another server. That server got worse as the load got bigger and they started outlawing anything they could to ease the load on the server. They culled a lot of posts at the time, so a lot of 'old timers' have lower postcounts than they might have.

There was a 'forum 7' for a time (It appeared as an april fools joke, as each forum used to be assigned a number, but 7 was skiped. It was rumoured that forum 7 was the secret 'mod forum') and that became basically a spam forum (although it was fun for all concerned) until they deleted it.

When we moved to Jolt, instead of loosening up on rules with regards to 'fun' threads, (as one might expect with the shiny new server) if anything they got tighter. At least this is how I see it.

how about a Polictial thing for NS... say... hmmm... a General for General. we put up nominations according to parties (Left, Right, Center), let them put up one post as to why they should be the General of General, then vote. the three winners (one from each party) becomes the Candidate for the general election. each will have only one thread to post their "Platforms" and answer questions from the General Populace. then the final voting takes place.

but what will their duties be... can't be mod like...

They could be the liason between general and the Mods... thus they can be blamed for being Wimps when the mods close a thread...
they can also take the blame for anything that goes wrong (mass spamming attacks and such.)

well, any comments?

random thinking:

Why the limits on threads -- content or server load? Chatty threads go on longer...

If server load, what options do we have if we want to chat? I mean, this is the internet, for crying out loud. There have to be more options...

If content (people going off topic, etc), could we just segregate side chats into dedicated threads -- sidebars? That way, a thread might not get hijacked so much. It could be like Where Do We Go From Here? and Where--Here<Sidebar>. If you can have more than one browser window open at the same time, you could participate in both conversations at the same time. But I guess not, as that would make more work for mods.

Maybe we should just shut up once in a while. Make them miss us. :)

The RP forums have always had a certain degree of hostility towards General. A lot of them believe that we are just a waste of space, and especially on the old server, taking up room that they could use for their posts. I'm not saying it's everybody, but a sizeable percentage.

Exactly. We never really got a reason for it, either. Or did we? That was a while ago.

I don't really want to reveal the player (at least, not here) who leaked the info, because they are still around. They aren't a mod, though. So who did that player get the info from? Chances are it was a mod, and I have a hunch it was her.
