Sun Worship-somewhat of an analysis

I have been thinking of worshipping the sun. The sun, or Sol(it DOES have a name), is probably the closest thing to a god we know.

1. It controls the weather.
2. It gives us life.
3. It will ultimately end us.
4. It can be proven to exist.
5. It has many names(the Sun, Sun, our star, Sol...).

These are main traits of many gods(except 4). So what do you think? hehe

VOCAB:
heliolatry-worshipping the sun
heliolater-one who worships the sun
A heliolater believes in heliolatry.

Hell, it makes more sense than a lot of religions. At least the sun definitely exists.

You can always come to Japan, a lot of shines are built to Amateratsu Omikami, the Goddess of the Sun.

Only drawback I can see is that it probably doesn't care one way or the other whether it's worshipped or not.

Actually I do worship the sun. It is called "Surya namaskar".

We also have a day of the year dedicated to thanking the sun for the harvest. It is called "Pongal".

Well, you can't PROVE that it cares one way or the other. Much like any other God.

Of course it does, did anyone not know that? Confess, anyone who did not know the sun was named Sol, I am making a list.

The sun has several names. Osiris, Sol Invictus, Helios, Sol, the Sun. But then, so does Yaweh.

Osiris is god of the dead. Amun-Re, Re, Amun, or Aten would be more correct.

Yes. But other things control the sun too, you know, like clouds, and the moon can cover the sun at times. Why don't you worship those too?

He worships everything that he sees when he looks upwards. Here is a quick list of things that Sel Appa worships, in case you ever have to know:

Ducts
Ceiling vents
Ceiling fans
Ceiling decorations
Ceilings
Tree leaves (but not the roots)
Airplanes
People that are jumping off of roofs to end their miserable existences
The piano that is about to fall on top of him

Not only did I know that, but I can take the Astronomy geek up a notch and get indignant when people talk about other Solar Systems ....

Guess what ... there's only ONE solar system in the entire Universe. Just the one. Our little bunch of planets orbiting Sol.

Sol + Orbitals = Solar System
70 Virginis + Orbitals = Virginal System (NOT Solar System)

HA!

Well, if you want to worship the sun, go right ahead. It makes at least as much sense as any other religion, and more than some. Just make sure you have a good sunscreen, lest the sun's ultraviolet wrath strike you down.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. At least he knows to look upwards. He'll be aware that the piano is above him and will duck. That, of course, makes him at risk of falling into an open manhole, a dirty ditch, or a crocodile infested river. :D

It's also possible that they are its servants, or lesser gods.

No, the moon behaves like that only during the eclipses. Otherwise the Moon God is quite well behaved.

The sun and the moon supports all life that we know, without them we simply wouldn't exist is that not what Gods are all about? Giving us life.

You reflectionists can't prove that. I have just as much proof that the moon is the sun's weak, malformed twin brother.
