In all likelihood, the Bush administration were simply astounded by quite the scale and potency of Katrina, and were unsure how to respond. Their apathy was induced more by indecision than by a lack of philanthropy, and I confess that Bush's conduct in the recovery has benn deplorable, however, one ought not to escalate his apathy and indecision into incompassion and callousness.

You should not be blaming the US government, you should be blaming the Louisiana state government and the New Orleans city government.

That was the LOCAL governments job to do, they failed it. Stop blaming the feds for local stupidity, go read up on the governmental structure of the US before you make comments on it please, thanks.
You should not be blaming the US government, you should be blaming the Louisiana state government and the New Orleans city government..
They also happen to be the most corrupt governments in the country; the real looting will begin when those federal dollars start flowing in.
The reason why the city of New Orleans/state of Louisiana is trying to shift the blame is because they don't want people to see how their corrupt regime has ruined that city and state econmically, and let their infrastructure fall apart.

This thread was started off in the premise of flaming as well as baiting, therefore, ilock. If you're going to start a debate, keep it civil, and discuss the ways that the US could have done things better (which there are plenty of other threads going on that are discussing this issue).
