Now in a cinema near you soon:
The Memory of a Killer (http://www.sonyclassics.com/memoryofakiller/about_crew.html)
The most popular Belgian movie ever made. It failed for the oscars (best foreign movie category), but still it has a pretty decent success (in the eyes of a Belgian). 100.000 Americans already saw it and the rights of a remake have been bought by an American companay (not saying they are really going to make it). Hold on: Belgian movie? That's right, no English. You'll have to do with sub-titles (which we're used to, but I believe it's a big minus in a country with an actual movie industry). Be glad it isn't dubbed (take that, Frenchies!).
In Belgium they said it was a very 'Hollywoodian' movie, while an American paper sais it had more depth then an average American is used to (read: it's one of those horrible, slow, about-nothing european movies). I think it has a right mix, but I'm awfully biased.
And it's so funny to see a Belgian movie in an American trailer:
trailer (http://www.sonyclassics.com/memoryofakiller/images/trailer_sony.gif) mmm, girl...
But if you rather see some penguins waggling.... ;)

Really? :(
I think we need more movies like this. America has way too many mindless shitmovies.
Anyone remember The Deer Hunter? That movie was exceptional, but a lot of people (mostly critics) hated it, because it was "slow". IT WAS ABOUT PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN HELD PRISONER BY THE FUCKING VIET CONG, AND HOW THEY COULDN'T CONTINUE TO LIVE NORMAL LIVES!!!
Urgh. Stupid Americans.

Deer Hunter was the one with the hunter whoo had the "One shot, one kill" thing, correct? (Yes, I know that there was More(tm) to that movie, but I'm just grabbing something easily memorable that everyone should be able to recognize and cope with) It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I can't remember if it was "slow." However, I would like to point out that a movie is "slow" if the director peoples take an exccessivle long time to cover points, and highlight insignifigant details. Thus, slow is a good complaint against a movie. The Hallmark Hall of Fame Frankenstein being an example ddue to its massive waste of film by constantly repeating earlier scenes and overusing stock footage of trees and towns.
Finally, just because a movie has a good message, doesn't mean that the movie is good and is worth watching. The trick is to fool the audience by introducing a message or point through the use of a story.
Urgh. Stupid Intellectuals.

Well, the Deer Hunter wasn't like that. It was, shall we say, "intricate".

It made me like Christopher walkens... and hate war movies..
Is it in French or Flemish/Dutch? The trailer seems to have been devoid of any dialogue so as not to scare the Americans away.

Flemish/Dutch. I noticed that too. :p

Phooey, then I'll have to read the subtitles... not that big of a deal, of course, but it's easier when you understand at least some of the original dialogue and you don't have to hang on every written word... not that Dutch is all that exotic to me as a Scandinavian, it's just that I understand spoken Dutch very poorly.

Yeah, you tell me. A Swede sounds to me like some weird Dutch dialect. Very strange to hear.
