High Gas Prices? Stop worrying!

It is so easy to save gas it isn't even funny.
1. Organize neighborhood shopping trips. Get together with a few other neighbors and go to the supermarket or strip mall. Park in a central area and everybody WALKS to the store they need.
2. Combine several trips into one and walk between them if you can.
3. Use public transport, walk, bike...
4. Pour some high alcohol liquor(I'm serious) or rubbing alcohol. (NOTE: I'm not sure of the safety of this, but both things are alternate fuels)
5. Have your tires properly inflated. This is one of the first things they tell you everywhere.
US ONLY: 6. Vote Democratic or Green(in a solid state). Both parties are likely to press for alternative fuels more than Republicans
We could just make it easier to build more refineries, which would solve the problem and give us time to develop alternative fuels without the economy suffering. Unfortunately, both parties in Congress put politics over policy, and this is the result. Don't forget the thousands of high paying jobs created in poor areas (as the RRA would mandate) or areas hurt by military base closings.

What would actually happen is it would "give us time to ignore the problem longer, without the economy suffering right now." :)

Why the hell would you just vote Green in solid states? Voting is supposed to make a difference.
I'd just like to point something out to everyone: We wouldn't have a gas shortage if those yuppie bitches didn't waste all of it on their damn SUVs!

Be worried instead about things like high gas prices leading to inflation.

how about rideing your bike to work, it would work were I live because most of the areas of Employment are downhill from my location, and after work, you ride the bus uphill to get home.
Gas would be much cheaper if Bush wasnt in office, or had an ounce of intellegence.

Gas would be much cheaper if Katrina never hit and China stopped growing.

No, it isn't. It puts pressure on the Democrats.

The best way to save on gas is to get rid of those damn gas-guzzling SUVs and over-sized vehicles, which otherwise have no place in the city to begin with when smaller cars will suffice quite nicely.

I COULD do that, or I could expect that an essential product would not become so inflated I need sacrifice my lifestyle...

It would be nice if my place of employment wasn't like 20 miles away, and my college like....10(?) miles away. I'm in shape and all, but a 20 mile bike ride would be a bit much for my legs to pedal :D

1) Military bases need to close, it isn't efficient having bases open just for the sake of having bases.
2) The oil refinery problem is the same as the electricity problems - too many people suffering the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) syndrome - they want all power to be available all the time, but my cricky, they don't want that power station anywhere near them - its somebody elses fault, as the would say.

My school's about 35 miles out. It's a nice, half hour drive to school - not to mention, a nice, exhausting bike ride. Yay, I'm screwed once I out of gas next.

China is growing through puberty all over again. It's a process.

is it really?
1. Organize neighborhood shopping trips. Get together with a few other neighbors and go to the supermarket or strip mall. Park in a central area and everybody WALKS to the store they need.
I don't have to organize neighbourhood shopping trips, I walk to the supermarket or go there when I have to use my car anyway.
3. Use public transport, walk, bike...
I only use my car to get to work and back or when I go to our cottage. There is no public transport and I work 70km (44 miles) from home.
4. Pour some high alcohol liquor(I'm serious) or rubbing alcohol. (NOTE: I'm not sure of the safety of this, but both things are alternate fuels)
illegal in my country.
I don't own a SUV. I have a very small car with decent mileage. With 1.5€/litre is just not funny anymore.

What works for us is, just fill the tank and it'll last you a good while if you limit your trips.

Why do Americans call the stuff you put in your engine 'Gas' when its a liquid fuel? We call it petrol in Australia.

I think petrol or 'gas' is far too cheap at the moment. It is a finite resource and besides burning it is very bad for the atmosphere. Trains and bicycles are the way to go!

Although without PR it usually gives you a Tory MP in the UK...go figure!

That's why we can convert them in to oil refinery sites, which will preserve the local economy while enabling us to reposition our forces.

Yes, that's one of the things that irritates me. People complin, but don't want to do anything to fix the problem. Even so, oil refining technology has mitigated many of the effects people associate with these facilities (I mean, the last one built was in 1976).

It's a local colloqualism. Yes we know it's petrol fuel, but 'gas' is what we call it. It's just a word that we have a common understanding of the meaning.

True, or simply mothball the town and move people to the big city; provide high rise, low cost housing so that the amount of time to get to work is cut, thus, they don't need to use their car that oftern; welcome to 'the end of suburbia' as we know it.

You know, for ever person that says they *MUST* use a car, there are atleast 10 people who can take public transport to their place of employment each day; imagine if every person who could take public transport, took it; the demand would decrease, supply would stay the same, and prices would decrease; and if people STAYED ON THE BLASTED PUBLIC TRANSPORT, you would find that prices of goods and services that need oil - like airlines, will decrease in price!
Want to know why people don't take public transport? they're too worried about the 'image' of being on public transport, as if it says they're from a lower socio economic grouping.
For me, I ride my bike to work each day; zero emmissions from - sure, I *COULD* purchase a car and then feel, each time I fill up my car with petrol and look at the, like I've been anal raped with out lube; but I prefer to be a cheapskate, save my dollars and put it to better use than purchasing some fuel to power a 2 tonne hunk of metal around.
