Boom in gas prices

Crisis. The recent substantial increase in gas has put drivers on edge. It baffles me that engineers have concentrated and advanced computer technology and genetics but have made little effort to find an alternate source of car fuel. I know a fuel bill was passed by George W. Bush which I believe but I might be wrong gave money to engineers/scientists in order to advance research in this area. However, after that little intiative I have yet to read about any apparent advances. Im not expert in this field, but it just frustrates me.

Gas wouldn't be so expensive if it wasn't so hard to refine enough of it. We've got the crude and the money, but there are so many laws and permits required that it's not worth the hassle to build them. Scrap these laws or streamline them and put refineries on old military bases. Gas prices will plunge, and so will crude. Of course this is only a short to mid term solution, and the world economy will need a more efficent source of energy.

Have you ever been to Europe? Our gas prices now average a little less than half theirs. Take a bus or carpool.

No, they wouldn't be if the Rats and Repugs didn't put politics before the good of the country.

the problem is, any overhaul of the engine would probably mean overhauling the factories.
Major changes in the Fuel would mean overhauling the refineries as well as the gas stations. we would need both because the cars running on Refined Gas would still be present while the new fuel cars would need something else.

all would take time and money. but that doesn't mean it's not being done. the High Gas Prices may be the kick in the @$$ we need to speed it up tho.

If that's true, why aren't other countries without tough regulations doing a roaring trade shipping refined petroleum products to the U.S.? It's not like entrepreneurs to ignore a profit opportunity.

And another point that is a little bit nitpicky but still important: If gas prices plunged, then people would use more gas, which would push the price of crude up.

Funny, the gas price at where I live went down from $1.20/L to $1.18/L while gas prices at other places got jacked up.:p

Oh pipe down. In the UK not only is petrol twice as expensive but the government is considering placing little black boxes in all cars that will tax you for every mile you drive, depending on the road you use and the time of day. That's about the one thing that might geniunely provoke a full-scale rivers-of-blood revolution in America but over here it might just go through.
