Best decade

There's nostalgia. Which was the best decade, and which was the worst? What is that you liked, and hated?
I think 80's was pretty cool: if you had a Nintendo, it was *the* state-of-the-art.
70's architecture and political ideals are horrible.
(poll coming)
1990's. Nasdaq 5,000, Dow 11,722, unemployment at 4% and Bill Clinton. Sure, it was a dot-com bubble, but it was a great time.
80's reagan and thatcher. and how many times have i seen this thread before? this must be about the third...
80's best cos of the music....
but 1 thing wrong.......the HAIR!!!!!!!!

1960s: sex, drugs, rock 'n roll... and hippies! w00t!
1980s: cool films, good metal, awful pop, terrible fashion, evil politics...
1970s: lets just forget about it ;)
The 1910's and 1920's were, from a scientific point of view, the most interesting:
1914: Felix Hausdorff defines set-theoretic topology in his book "Grundzüge der Mengenlehre"
1916: Einstein publishes his paper on General Relativity
1922: Skolem sets up the Zermelo-Fraenkel Axioms of Set Theory, based on the works of Zermelo and Fraenkel, on which modern mathematics found.
1925: Schrödinger developes the Schrödinger Equation and gives quantum theory its foundation.
1928: Paul Dirac developes the Dirac Equation, which predicts the existence of antiparticles.

Without a doubt, the 1920s. It was a time when the American middle class was begining to emerge, when radio became popular and silent film theatres lined the streets. There were flappers and speak-easies and silent Presidents. It seems like such an exciting time, too bad it all came to crashing end...

The '80's.
Maggie Thatcher, Miner's Strikes, and I was born. Definitely the best.

id have to say the 90s
I identify with the music and cultural climate of change in the 60s and 70s but havent lived in them so I cant say whether they are the best or not.
80s were also cool (blackadder being one thing)

capitalists beat socialist unions.... obviously!
I'm one of those of the position who prefers to break up the cultural decades (at least for the music) along the -5 line, i.e. "the 80s" were 1985-1995, thus being the best decade. In close second comes "the 60s II", 1965-1975.
If we're talking politics, the Clinton era, i.e. "the 90s", 1990-2000, was good, as well as "the 60s", 1960-1970. And all things considered, Nixon wasn't that bad compared to some of the later "conservatives", (differentiate between fiscal conservatives and authoritarian puritans).

Nothing: I wasn't actually born to witness them, but they are an interesting part of our recent history, and set an enormous precedent for every strike since: the Fire Strike, the Gateway caterer's strike etc...
And Maggie was a good PM: she went a bit gaga towards the end, but she led us right.
"the 60s II"
Heh. I love that term. If noone's copylefted it yet, then I will.
In any event, it's very difficult to vote on this poll, given the sharp distinctions between cultural and political eras. Still, since the 60s seems to be losing badly to the nostalgia of the 80s, I'll have to give the former my vote, despite my fondness for the latter.
the mid to late 1960's and early 70's were the best. granted, i wasn't alive for them, but my dad was and the stories he told about san francisco in it's glorious hippy days sounded so cool. lucky bastard.

The 1980's, simply due to the new romantics.

The '90s. Carefree, an economic explosion, and a world that changed faster than a blink of an eye, and without the horrible music (except the early ninenties, that is).
