What is your religion?

Vlad von Volcist

As I've been reading through the forum I've found people with very strong religious beliefs and I have also found some strange ones. (ex. an athiest jew)
Feal free to argue with each other I'm just curios on the different religions out there. Also please give a description of the belief.

Me I have my own belief. I don't believe in a god but I do belive in an afterlife.
And there are no moral shit to live by. I promote living however you want. (Just so you don't misinterpet that I do not agree with murder for no reason. I simply believe people shouldn't be told by a book or invisiblse man how to live their life.) I say let people create their own morals. (But if you kill for fun I think you should still be tortured then killed. You know an eye for an eye.)

agnostic leaning atheist. Too many unanswered questions from the Christian faith (I was raised Presbyterian).

I actually got hit up by a campus christian group asking me how I felt about god. I started off by saying "I don't believe in god". After getting the deer in the headlights look from the two pollsters, I got into a deep discussion about free will and determinism co-existing in the universe, that subsequently made me late for class.

I was raised Unitarian Universalist, but I cut my ties and much later got involved with the Church of the SubGenius, for laughs, mostly. I'm a SubGenius Minister, as it happens.

But last year I had what could be termed a vision, and so I've been following my own path since then. But I have a very direct relationship with the archetypes that revealed themselves to me...

Not sure about a spirtualist, but an agnostic is (generally speaking) someone who believes it is impossible to know if there's a God/higher being, but doesn't not believe in said higher being (which would be atheism).

I have yet to figure out what I truly believe. I think I have been raised Jewish however I have some atheist, deist, Taoist, and Buddhist views in addition to my Jewish ones.
The beliefs I have formed are such:
There is only one life and that is it. No afterlife, no reincarnation
There are absolute morals but the vary by the situation. Killing shouldn't be done in most cases but is mandatory in others, etc. Each situation has particular courses of action that are more moral than others.
Actions have consequenses in life, good and bad. They often are ironic. I'm not sure whether a diety causes this or if it is just the nature of the universe. Maybe diety is what we call the nature of the universe that we don't understand.

P.S. Atheist Jews are not uncommon. While Judiaism assumes a god, a good Jew must follow the laws not the diety. The idea is that one comes to God through the laws, not visa versa.

I was raised protestant(baptist) by my mothers side of the family. My mother believed in g-d but not institutions. My dad became a pentecost preacher about 10 years after my mother divorced him and my step dad is a non practicing, though believing, catholic.

I am a papist(fundamentalist) type catholic in belief but not particularly my actions.

I see some say they are christians with leanings toward other religions. You lean toward other religions because you think that christianity doesn't cover this or that, however, most world religions tend to share fundamental human concepts of right and wrong behavior.

I don't follow any religion, per se, but I do think that Jesus, the Buddha, and various other religious leaders weren't just blowing smoke out of their collective butts. I try and lead as good and decent a life as I can, but then again it's based on my own ideas of what is good and decent. I guess I don't really care whether or not there is a God or gods (and if they're going to punish me for not believing in them, I really don't think I would want to follow them anyway.)

No organised faith. I believe there's a higher consciousness, and I believe that there have some people in history who have had a very strong link to this consciousness. I do not give much acclaim to the idea of an afterlife, though I can see the concept of earthly reincarnation working in some ways. I believe in evolution, and also that science is the best way of looking at the physical world as long as it's accompanied by a healthy emotional connection to what we interact with. I also reckon that, despite a lack of suggestion of divinity, the literary works of some faiths hold great wisdom that we could probably learn from if we could accept the mythology of it as a means to an end rather than the point of living.

I'm therefore neither Christian nor Atheist, though I do take some spiritual aspects of both movements that I think are worth keeping.

I'm atheist, I suppose. I have a set of morals that I live by, but not out of fear of punishment by some omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent being. My ideas lean towards the theories of evolution, pulsating universe.. things like that.

As of now, I'm a seriously lapsed Roman Catholic. I don't foresee myself ever returning to the church because I have serious disagreements with the Vatican. Or perhaps I should say with the idea of even having the Vatican. It seem strange to me that there is an entire city of people revolving around someone who claims to be God's emissary or whatever.

I was raised RC, and I had perceived myself as being quite serious about it through most of my life, but in the past year and a half I had quite a falling-out with Christianity in general (I'm from Boston; the molestation scandals and the Church's reaction to them certainly did not help).

After further reflection and study I oscillated between agnosticism and deism. Nowadays I'm pretty much deist: I believe in some kind of creator without knowing anything other than the fact that it made the universe. Belief is not the same as worship, however; my personal judgement is that anything seeking worship is not worthy of it. There is an absolute morality, but it's revealed in the nature of creation, not through any holy book. You might say that nature itself is the true scripture.

But I'm running on. I see there are some other deists out there; I'd love to hear your specifics. I know it's a pretty intellectually diverse 'creed.'

animistic deist (lower case on purpose).

Deist because I believe the entire universe is the face of god and that human beings can understand god and themselves through rational observation of the natural world, and that science and reason, coupled with intuition, are the way to go.

Animist because I believe in spiritual existence. I'm not willing to say that I, as a human, have a soul, but other creatures/things don't, so I assume soulfulness all round. I try to establish good relations with the world around me.

I believe in a spiritual afterlife and reincarnation, and that we make our fates by the choices we make in this life.

I don't belong to a church, temple, circle, or any other organized group.

And I'm really pleased to see people describing themselves without defensiveness or antagonism. This makes me feel really good. Thanks. :)

You spelled Buddha wrong. And by the way, he isn't a diety.

I'm a Zen(i'd say Mahayana, but that would group me with those snouty Tibetan Buddhists) Buddhist. I converted about a year ago. When i was young, my parents took me and my sister to church. But by six, we didn't go anymore. Between then and a year ago, i was a spiritual-independant, i believed in God, but had a strong belief in Scientific views over christian ones. Being a Buddhist openly has been rough, seeing as most of my family is Baptist (my mom is Buddhist, and my Dad is non-religious). But i think they've excepted it. I still think they're is a God, but i don't think an all powerful being would have a desperate desire for attention :) .
