We all do it. At least I think we do...
When you talk to yourself, whether mentally or verbally. How do you usually refer to yourself?

Personally, I use I.

I'm an only child and I had imaginary friends until I was five or six years old. I don't really talk to myself out loud anymore. :)

I talk to myself, only to say things like

"eh, it'll do"

"arghh! Bollox!"

"yeeeah!"

Talking to yourself can include saying things inside your head.

First person when I'm being earnest or stern with myself.

Second person when I'm slightly uncomfortable or detached.

Inclusive sense when I'm feeling egotistically multi-faceted.

Usually I talk to other people. They give better conversation.

It's pretty odd. First person when thinking about mathematics, third person when thinking about philosophy, and everything else varies on the situation.

... am I the only person that doesn't talk to herself? (er, himself, whatever)

Sometimes I make up conversations with OTHER people 'in my head'... if I happen to be thinking about them, but I don't really think about the conversation itself, just their overall reaction to some idea rather...

I tend to carry out one sided conversations. I will actually say my side of the conversation and the crazy voices in my head will respond in the manner that crazy head voices tend to use. I am not actually talking to myself so much as I am talking to a mental construct of another person. I think that recently I am starting to talk to myself more often, I do not think I am going crazy though.

usually in the third person (ie that was dumb smunkee )
I think it is because when I was in elementary school I had a teacher that would listen to self affirmation tapes when it was nap time. "I, smunkee, am a smart person" somewhere in my kindergarten mind while half asleep I must have messed up the flow of the sentence.

First person. The only sane way to talk to oneself. :D
