Scots on holiday 'forced to join looters to find food'

THE daughter of a Scots holidaymaker caught up in the devastation of Hurricane Katrina told last night how her mother had been forced to join in the looting to find food.

Teresa Cherrie, 42, a nurse, and her partner, John Drysdale, 41, a lorry driver, from Renfrew, are marooned in New Orleans. The couple are desperately awaiting rescue on the roof of an apartment block with ten American refugees in the French quarter of Baton Rouge, while hiding from armed gangs.

Those looters come from all over the world! Have people no shame?

They don't shoot looters who take food or water. They shoot the ones putting others in danger and the ones roaming the streets with stolen guns shooting, raping, and robbing others for their valuables. They shoot the real criminals, not the people trying to keep themselves alive.

I admire your ability to discriminate so clearly between good and bad people.

When you've got gangs of armed men openly roaming the streets in broad daylight, burning buildings and taking hostages, it's easy to tell.

And yet it's a distinction that many people on this forum are unable or unwilling to make.

It's a risk we have to take. If we don't take down these criminals, how many aid workers, police, soliders, volunteers, and medical personnel will be injured? How many innocent victims will be murdered or die from lack of relief supplies?

armed gangs?

I heard of gangs living in Hotels but are they really going around with GUNS! (another reason to ban guns I guess)

but you would of thought the police would of confiscated all the weapons before the hurricane hit?

He's not a an eyewitness, his claims are solely based on pictures. Therefore his opinion has no authority.

I'm not arguing with you. I agree that anyone committing violent crimes should be shot immediately. I'm just pointing out that too many people here are running around saying, "Shoot all the looters! You have to maintain order, even if it means killing people for the sake of ruined property!"

I agree, however if they refuse a lawful order to stop looting and they continue, shoot them. Law and order comes before lives.

I was agreeing with you, and expanding it to the people who disagree with us. :)

I disagree with the "shoot em all" people as much as the ones who try to justify their actions.

Shouldn't 'Scottish Raiders' be described as 'Scottish Reivers'? - it is the traditional term, after all, and using the word 'Raiders' just seems like another concession to those south of the border.

Okay, glad we've got that cleared up. ;)
