Where would you go?

If you were ejected from the country you live in, your citizenship revoked, and given the option to relocate anywhere in the world so long as the country you choose DOES NOT BORDER, AND IS NOT A PROTECTORATE OF THE COUNTRY YOU NOW LIVE IN, where would you go?
Where are you now and why would you relocate to the place you choose?
There is no real reason for this other than and exercise in rationalizing what would be important criteria for you to permanently relocate.
That said, I'm a US citizen and if I were to lose that citizenship, I would wish to relocate to New Zeland, mainly because of the emerging film industry and its pure beauty. plus it's proximity to Australia. The U.K. is a close second, mainly because I love their sense of humor and partly because I come from Welsh stock. My choices are definately biased toward the language barrier. I love to learn but learning a new dialect would be easier for me to adjust than learning a new language.

I'm from the U.S. and I'd probably pack up my bags and move to England or Ireland. The language is something that I'd find easier to deal with (I do understand that some parts of Ireland speak Irish). Although, I am in my fourth year of Spanish and understand the language well enough to survive in Spain, or another Spanish speaking country. Spain seems so much more nicer because the government pays for Healthcare, and it borders France and the nice Mediterranian. Although, since I can't get in a plane because I have eardrum issues, I would probably just move to Mexico or something.
Ireland, the land of ire!
Italy. Their gelato is just too damn good.
i'm from UKland, i would relocate to the Principality of Sealand, just off the coast of Felixtowe, purely because i live 10 miles off Felixtowe so it's not that far for me to travel, also the Prince dude rocks, and they have a Belgian prisoner of war.

Western Europe is the region I'd move too. As for the country.... I donno, tough decision there. Probably Nice, France on the Mediterranian. Hopefully the language wouldn't be to much trouble (I failed French...many times).
If not Europe then New Zealand would be my 2nd choice as I have family there.

I'm leaning towards Germany, mostly because I took the language in school. Besides, I like most of what I see in the culture.

Scotland - land of free-roaming transvestites and log-tossing burly types, some of whom are also transvestites.
Ireland, as it's the closest thing to home there is and the land of my grandparents. I seem to be missing all the transvestites roaming around Scotland  think the burly types have beaten them all up

My immediate reaction was to choose New Zealand. It is a beautiful country, not overcrowded, has a high regard for education, and English is spoken there. Norway would be a close second. Their commitment to education, the people, and the incredible landscape would definitely draw me. My grandparents came from Norway and I have family there.
But I have to say, I love my country. I am an American, My country has beauty, wonderful people, and an incredibly dense leader. But I have the right to complain about things and the right to work to change things.

Well, because they both seem to have decent goverments, and they both have really awesome languages.

Gotta go with Italy. If you can't live in America, then you should live where the last great republic was and where the Enlightenment took place.

The Enlightenment? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that an originally French movement, that caught on with German philosophers, who in turn became the most ardent supporters?

I credit the start of the Enlightenment primarily to Hobbes and Locke, both of English extraction. Maybe you meant the Renaissance, because the two real centers of the Enlightenment were Great Britain and France. France definitely deserves mention because of Rousseau (whose philosophy is actually proto-romantic, but was inspired by Enlightenment ideas and he's actually from Switzerland, not France, but he was French Swiss, anyway!) and Voltaire.
Anyway, I'm American and I'd move to Canada or England. I'm not really a fan of either country--mostly because of the ungodly taxes, not that it's so great in the US either--but the legal systems are familiar and there's no significant language barrier.

Feck! I missclicked in the poll. One vote on Western Europe belongs to Eastern Europe.
Anyway, the Czech Republic would my country of choice. The economy is going good, the people are very open to forigners (and that's an understatement), and there'd be good job opportunities for me.
Most importantly though, there's a vibrant alternative scene, with a ton of serious, dedicated people. People with brains, skills and plenty of initiv. If I really got kicked out of my own country, I would go where I'd feel at home, and a dedicated & innovative alternative underground scene, where I could make a positive difference, is the only other place I would feel at home.
Also, Czech's are very, very pretty, and the beer is so cheap it's offensive.
I'd only worry about the language barrier in a country where I could easily get by on the languages I already speak. Being stuck in a country where noone understands a word you say will teach you the basics in a month, and most people have a fairly decent grasp of the language after 3-4 months. Necessity is the mother of invention and all that.

Were I to be ejected from the UK, I would be compelled to emigrate to France or Ireland. Culturally France is, to my mind, the epitome of sophistication, and barring their frankly appaling musical taste, they are culturally self-sufficient. Ireland, however, possesses the most amicable and convivial populace in the world, and its bars are exquisite.
america, conservative government, family there, and you can do whatver the hell you like to people that get on your property.

Well, I'm in southern California right now, so I guess i'd go to western Australia if I wanted a nearly-identical alternative... it's basically the same, besides the accents.
However, I really wouldn't want to go far, and could probably commute from parts of Canada.. so Canada. :)

Across the ditch to oz i guess.
I think probably New Zealand (I'm Canadian) for the climate and the scenery (similar to my home). My second choice is Sweden, it would probably be my first choice due to its socialist nature and standard of living and education level of its citizens, but NZ edges it out only due to climate.
i'd go over to the US. i'm thinking of going there after uni, anyways and i already have american citizenship and have loads of family there

seems like a plan to me :D
I voted for Western Europe, because i would picture my first choice (a Poland or a Czechia, or one of the Baltics) as being considered to "border" my country, since i would still be in "Eastern Europe" (i'm from Romania).

I've got two places:
Estonia: It's closest to Finland there is. I'd probably learn the language pretty quickly (I already know something) and I just happen to like it. A nice country, beautiful girls and it's not that expensive yet.
Canada: Why not? I speak English and a bit of French so no problem with the language. It's also not as terrorist-paranoid country as USA.
Well i would go to Ireland back to the stomping grounds of my Ancestors.

A nice tropical south pacific island where there's only dusky maidens who feel the need to go topless, and there's an unlimited supply of Banana Daiquiri.
An actual place I'd consider going would be the Maldives. I was recently offered a teaching job there at the Maldive Hilton (2 year contract, only $1000US a month, but free accomodation + meals). It took me a long time thunking before I very regretfully turned it down. I'm making far too good money here, and want to have enough saved by early next year for a house deposit. But man, was it hard! Below is the Hilton Maldive website so you see what I turned down:

I can understand why you would turn it down, after all only $12,000.00 a year and no expenses. Also, no Walmart, McDonalds, Subway, no automobiles, all that water around. No I can understand why you would turn it down. :D
