Can't your S&W also fire .357 ammo?

Is it the SHORT barreled revolver or is it the 4"?

No, it's strictly chambered for .38 spl, and it's the snubbie. Easy to conceal.

Nice- the SKS paratrooper with a bayonette? 7.62 X 39

I have and SKS-I added the folding stock and a fixed 30 rd banana clip. You still load with stripper clips from the top. There should be a cleaning kit in the but plate of your's, right?

I also have two M1 30 carbines with various pre ban clips as well. And loads of ammo for all.

I almost forgot-a Mossberg 500 12 ga with a pistol grip and a tactical light. And plenty of ammo.

It's actually the full-size SKS with the 20.5 barrel. I WISH it was a paratrooper. Those are so much easier to carry and conceal.

I removed the cleaning kit because I have surplus east german AK kits that are much better and use a pull-through bristle rather than a steel rod which will bang the hell out of your barrel's crown and kill your accuracy.

I've got a collection of 25 or so rifles and shotguns, mostly hunting arms but some for competition. I've got a couple of SK's, one Russian, one Chinese, and both unmodified. I would reach for one of them in an emergency, though the length of pull is uncomfortably short for me. Been meaning to put a slip-on pad on one to lengthen the stock a bit.

I keep a case of ammo on hand and keep strippers pre-loaded.

Any gun will do well if needed, for sure. The SK's or AK's, if you have one, are a good choice. Sufficently accurate, decent firepower, but mainly dead-solid reliable. I prefer the 7.62x39 over the .223 too.

Anyone else as impressed as I am with the simplicity and reliability of the action? Mine rides in the pickup and has never malfunctioned even when filthy.

Don't know what they go for now, but I bought mine new for $85 a few years ago. Good choice for anyone buying a truck gun or to keep around the house.

BTW guys, I got a new AK kit today-a 1986 Romanian AIM. I will post pics here shortly, but I am very happy that I got a 1986 kit because 1986 was a VERY influencial year in my life and for gun owners in general. The 86 Firearm owners protection act, which ended some of the alarming abuses of the constitution by the ATF, was passed by Reagan. And the 1986 Machinegun ban was also passed by Reagan, unfortunately  . Nobody knew about it because it was slipped in at the last minute.

If you're talking about the corrosive primer in the Norinco surplus 7.62 mm you can actually neutralize it with regulaar old anti-freeze. Just swab it down and sink the bolt and receiver in anti-freeze for a few minutes then do a regular cleaning after shootingand your SKS will be fine. I ran a few thousand through my old SKS using this method andit worked fine. Learned that from a buddy who used the Norinco in his AK. That stuff is sooo cheap you're definately getting your money's worth out of an extra 5-10 minutes cleaning!

FYI I only shoot non-corrosive ammunition. I use WOLF, which is made in russia. It goes bang everytime, my SKS loves it, No FTEs,FTFs, or any failures of anykind, and it's pretty recently manufactured. However after you fire it your gun smells like urine  ....weird russky powder.

After shooting I always throw both my rifles in the shower with the hot water blasting. Hot water cleans away all the crap that grows inside of a rifle during use. I swear by it. Throw them in the shower, use a sprayer and send hot water down the barrel, dry it very good with a blow dryer, light coating of WD40/penetrating oil/CLP, and re-assemble it.

It's what I use to store 500 rounds of my practice ammo, which is wolf Hollowpoint 7.62x39. I can't use anything else at the range I go to, so I keep it in that. Hope you have something other than a .223 or 9mm. Both have not been up to par with 120lb Hadjis in Iraq out of Short-barreled M4s. Bullets don't have enough velocity to fragment and act like little .22 caliber icepicks, in and out with minimal tissue and temporary/permanent cavity damage.

9mm is just as bad.

Seeing as how your average looter in NO was pretty heavy, if these guys ever found out you shot them, they'll get pretty ticked off at you.

I would suggest that you start with a .22 rifle. Most are cheap, the ammo is very inexpensive, and it will help you build marksmanship and good habits before moving on to something like a handgun or centerfire rifle.

Anyways... its uncanny, the original poster has the exact same "combat" setup as me, SKS with loaded stripper clips and webgear. Both my SKS' are yugos.

My other guns that I keep for "social use" include a Norinco trench gun clone w/ its bayonet, an M1 carbine and a 'No.4 (that met bubba before she met me :(). Sidearm is an Inglis 9mm. :sniper:

I dont plan on buying one soon, but in the future. (not for hunting, just for shooting target's(not human target's))

I'd get a Norinco SKS. It will eat anything you feed it, never hiccup or fail to work, and it has a chrome barrel-which means it is VERY easy to clean and lasts longer than non-chromed barrels. Just field strip it and throw the metal parts in the shower with hot water, and dry all the parts out with a hair dryer really good, and spray down with wd-40.

Polymer? Pussy. The .50 caliber ammo IS fear.

It is scary. Scary to carry. You will break your hand and shell out twice as money, and probably do no more damage than a .45 or 10mm.

By the time you aim, I could have unloaded multiple 10mm. And trust me, there wont be no difference in death there.
