I know I made some negative comments about Sean Coombs a while back in regard to name changes, etc..., I take my negativity back. Here is proof the man is stepping up in a strong effort to do whats right and hopefully others-many others- will follow his example:

That was nice of him.

His name is still stupid, and they seem to be getting stupider.

"This is our community," Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter told The Associated Press by phone. "When I turn on CNN, I see a lot of black people on the streets. I know it's other people too, but those projects have been hit hard."

Good stuff. If I had that much money I'd be given it too.

They are still doing it though, regardless of their silly names and reasons.
I dont agree with their style and what they stand for, but do respect them for putting their own dollars up. And not just simply telling their fans to, like so many phonies in the entertainment industry.

Yea, I think that's a good gesture, but I'm still afraid that he's gonna shoot me for not voting.

If everyone just sent $5.00, it would make a huge difference. Check out the Red Cross site- they will take just $5.00. Tell everyone you know. If peopleactually DO it rather than just discuss it, it will make a huge difference in people's lives.

I agree. They could give a hell of a lot more. This is just posturing to gain brownie points. Soon there will be a Katrina Relief Album with b-sides from bands that are losing ground in the pop-charts.

I hate to be jaded, but I rarely think celebrities give to be given. But on another note...where's the louisiana girl Britney these days? She cashed in on her roots why isn't she helping out?

I gave something worth more than $5. I gave my rare blood type.

Yeah- Like I said, I dont agree with that street urban in your face bullshit, but if he dontes a million and inspires a bunch of his friends to donate some serious cash and many of his fans to send a few bucks, that will really be some good he's done. More good than I am capable of right now.

Good for you-and whoever benefits from it. If everone donates in this spirit, its going to make a huge difference in the lives of others.

A rare blood type donation that will likely contribute directly to save a life.

Thats really wonderful that you guys/gals donated blood. I was thinking last night as I watched the news, how much we take for granted and some of the things we might not think about. Like if someone is Diabetic, they have nothing but the clothes on their back. No insulin, no test strips. They could be in grave danger. Babies who are being bottle fed...no milk, no diapers. People who have lost their glasses and cant see 3 feet in front of them. I saw an elderly man being pushed in a wheelchair, through the water last night. He is dependant on someone for complete mobility. I cant even imagine what these people are going through. And watching the news and seeing the people in motion, rather than still shots on the web.....it really chokes you up. You can see the tears streaming down their faces and the fear in their eyes.

Its so sad that so many people have learned what true loss is all at the same time.

We were talking about it last night after dinner. I was trying to imagine myself sitting on top of a roof with my 14 month old son and 6 year old daughter....if I was even lucky enough to have saved their lives. I dont know what I would have done. Thats why when I hear all the political blaming, it makes me mad. People are losing sight of the people who are suffering. There are people who have missing family members and they dont even know if theyre alive.

Last night was the first time I've really had a chance to sit and watch the news and it was pretty horrifying. I don't think I've seen anything else to compare to it...from the US I mean. Mt Saint Helens is the closest, but we were never without basics for this long.
If I was healthy enough I'd donate my AB- blood type, but at this point it might do more harm than good. I'm going to stick with donating money and later on, clothes and stuff if I find a reputable agency to ship it.
I like it when celebrities donate...it doesn't make me like them if I didn't like them before but I prefer them spending their money on this than on their next plastic surgery.

thats been weighing on me too. I'm thankful, but sitting here writing a check seems a little lame when I'm comfortable and safe with my family and all our needs and most wants are met.

Zooke said she is doing what she can to take a family into her home. I cant say how impressed I am and what an incredible thing that is.
