If you think of the flood in New Orleans, the first thing which will come to your mind will probably the looting and the 'anarchy'. As some (http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Widespread_looting_blamed_for_disrupted_rescue_efforts_in_New_Orleans%2C_Louisiana) reports about looting now turn out to me false, I wonder if the situation is in general displayed too biased. Normally, the first thing which happens when a disaster like this comes about, the public starts blaming the politics for not having taken appropriate preventive measures. Why do people mostly talk about the lootings, and not about the insuffiency of the flood control measures in New Orleans or the slow help response?
To me it seems, that the media creates the image of the evil black underclass ambulance-assaulting looter pro-actively.

to be fair (and i dont believe in conspiracy crap) the TV media simply reports the most sensationalist aspects of a story. Gangs and looting has more ratings than flood defenses weren't enough. Print media tend to cover these other aspects better and will probe the apparent lack of organised responce over the coming days. but by then the TV viewers will be bored of New Orleans and so a large part of society will never know anything more than the pictures of the first couple of days.

I agree to that....when i saw the aftermath on the BBC in Britain...as i am british....all it showed was Black people looting and i thought to myself yeah people are going to be looting but its not only black people its most likely white people aswell. I just hope New Orleans gets rebuilt quickly. Take care

Media cares about nothing but ratings. In that sense they are nothing but legalized whores. I hate reading or watching the news because thats all they go after is the negative and frankly, I see enough negative crap in my daily life. And for god sakes, get off that old black/white ride too. That shit is getting old.

There are bad and good in all races. It isnt a color thing.

The claims probably are sensationalist but I'm hearing the same thing from ppl on this site, and on others that the looting is happening. The governors are reporting complete anarchy, if I were a politician I wouldn't want the fact my state was out of control to be reported. I don't like the way there are reports that show black ppl doing all the looting, but they think that the majority of those who stayed behind actually are black. Media is crazy is anyway.

I should like to point out that anyone here, on anywhere on the internet, is just relaying reports they've read in the media. Anybody in New Orleans is either fending off the looters, searching for water, or planning how to get the fcuk out of there. Not posting on internet forums.

That's crap!! I'm sure it is only Black people looting and it does not suprise me - get that many in a certain situation ie the New Orleans and look what happens - doe snot suprise me at all! Looting, guns, rape what a shock!! :rolleyes:
