Hurricane Shelters full - take them in YOUR home?

Hi!

I haven't seen these sites on the news yet, but these 3 sites are all people in the US and Canada offering spare rooms and places to stay until some of these families whom have lost everything can get back on their feet/in their homes. Since the main shelters are full, I know those of us with spare rooms/houses offering shelter to victims may be something to consider.

Victims may have to undergo a background check, but this needs to be posted in the media - and perhaps in some of the shelters as alot of these folks may wind up moving in the near future. (No shelter, no business = no job = start over someplace new.)

So, I guess the question is - if you had the space, would you offer your house/a room to a stranger in dire need of a place to stay?

If I owned a house and lived anywhere near the disaster site, then yes I would.

Provided they were young, single females. ;) You give a little, you get a little, that's what I say.

I could, but they'd have to buy their own plane ticket

I would if they had no objections to serving me food in revealing outfits...

No, I live too far away, right on the other side of the world. But even if I lived somewhere near the disaster area, I probably wouldn't take someone in. It'd be too weird to have a complete stranger in my house.

Although swimming might not seem like a terribly new prospect for some of these survivors, I doubt any of them would be willing to swim across the Atlantic Ocean to get here :D.

I'm not sure I'd endanger my family even if they could swim here, though, however needy they are. The number of average people taking pot-shots at emergency workers over there has reaffirmed my belief that you can never trust anybody you don't know a lot about.
