Oprah for President?

I know it gets thrown out there alot. But if the Democrats are expecting another loss they may as well run her. She has a massive popularity following, she'd have the balck vote, the woman vote and a large chunk of the poor and middle class votes. She's a "woman of the people" but also a billionaire.

And heck, it just might be true. Given she's quit her talkshow.

I couldn't be bothered posting the billion the links I found so here's Google (http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=Oprah+to+quit&meta=).

If she ran Demo, Id vote republican. Not because she is black, nor a woman. But just because Ive never cared for her. *shrug*

Hitler wouldnt be running for President. And whats to say my views of her dont put her close to the same mark anyhow in my book ? I cant really explain my dislike of her. But Ive never liked nor trusted anything about her.

Or was there another jab you were going for that I missed ? :)

Good thread Rotovia, but I would have made it with a public poll, I love public polls.

I think if we are going to vote and express our views and comments on Nationstates it should be a public poll.

Once again I say, good thread Rotovia.

Yeah she'd probably get voted in just because of who she is.. She'd give all the voters free 'goodies'!

It would of course be oprah v hillary.

Can you imagine President Oprah sitting down and discussing what happened to Osama as a child and bringing in Dr Phil to have couciling sessions! :D

A black woman as the president of the United States of America? I'd be surprised if that happened in the next 20 or 30 years or so, if not longer. A white woman would be pushing it I think. I have no idea why, it just seems to be the way these things work. *Shrug*

I've never actually seen his show (what with having a job and all :D) but if what I've seen on Letterman (yeah, they (used to) show that over here) is anything to go by he's just another one of those 'problem chat' hosts. A particularly aggressive one (i.e. he seems to be the kind of person who'd shout at you if you took too long to mourn a dead relative) though...

She said she wasn't running for Senate too. Bill said he wasn't running for President and he did. She has to run for the Senate again in case she doesn't win the presidency that way her name will still be out there and she will still be in politics. She'll be forming an exploritory committee next.

The very concept of a television presenter assuming the role of a president is endemic of the inherently farcical nature of American politics, since a politician, as Machiavelli outlays, is an erudite, intelligent individual who is capable of comprehending and accordingly acting in a situation. A television presenter, as I percieve it, adheres to none of the above. A truly legitimate politician is one such as Kenneth Clarke, Gordon Brown, Robin Cook or David Davis, all of whom possess degrees from reputable universities, and are solely political as a public entity. If any remain unsure of my rationale and justification, I allude to the following, would any Britain accept Trisha as PM, and quite how appalling a politician has Kilroy contrived to be?

Talk show host who labelled Arabs as "women oppressors" and "ragheads" in a tabloid newspaper column, was compelled to leave his talk show, became a member of the UKIP party and arsed that up into an entirely racist party, started his own party whose credibility is maintained by possessing Joan Collins as a spokeswoman. He also spent a week with Gypsies on a reality television program and contravened all their customs, refused to stay in a caravan, and leaft several days early.

Hmmm... I'm just not so confident that an African American woman who happens to be a democrat would fare so well. It's hard enough to get a candidate elected with just one of these traits. We have to overcome a few major social and political obstacles before she even has a chance.

I don't know. Her refusal to appear in Letterman's Superbowl of Love certainly alienated the Late Night crowd, showing that she's a divider and not a unifier.

Because black women are superior? Ok!? I'm reserved on Oprah. I have no idea how she would run the country. I only know she runs a TV show. And gave away free cars. (Bad communist jokes apply) I have to believe there are better Democrats out there for the job. Saying that the Dems should put up Oprah for the candidacy because she's a black woman and will get black votes and women votes is...a horrible thing to say really, IMHO.

I'd put it up between Hillary and the republican; depending on which republican.

I am not exactly sure why she'd want to run for the presidency. Even without her talkshow, she is the most powerful woman in American entertainment, and undoubtedly the richest. She has a magazine, a production business, and stars in a movie every few years. She may run for a smaller federal office, but I think she is more happy in entertainment. Besides, she has only waded into politics in her shows, and doesn't exactly take sides on issues.

I'd put it up between Hillary and the republican; depending on which republican. The point is, if the Democrats expect a loss they may as well have a tactical loss. Hell when the Republicans trample Orah at the polls the Dems can shout racist, sexist, Republicans for the next four years.

This plan has my seal of approval.
