First minor victory for The New Left

Those of you you laughed and mocked when I warned that the long suppressed rage of the modern left would be back and more alive then ever, can feast on this thought.

Proceesdural changes to trials at Git'mo have been introduced since GetUp.org (http://www.getup.org.au) began their campaign to bring David Hicks home to face Australian justice.

But donot be so niave as to think we're stopping here, we set out with a goal and we will will not stop until it has been acheived. First step is not to have David Hicks face a more legal US military Court, but to have him face an Australian Court governed by fair proceedure.

The final step will be an end to the conservative Liberal Government that has invaded out political institutions like a virus, infecting every arm of government.

Rest assured Mr Howard we are here, and we are ready for you.

Hey, if you don't want Americans holding your citizens when they are caught in in the company of enemy fighters, catch them first.

What kind of a jackass would associate with the Taliban anyway? His fault.

No one is disputing the fact he should be tried. Just that he should be tried in a relivent juristiction, and given a fair trial.

Relivant jurisdiction? He was captured by the US in armed combat against US troops. He's not a regular criminal which can be extradited to a criminal court in Australia. There is no provision for this sort of extradition either. Futile legal moves cost money and time. But if you have both to waste, go for it.

Can you say "Due Process"? Basically you've just locked up a bunch of people and thrown away the key. That's not what most nations consider fair treatment of prisoners, regardless of what they were caught doing.

In fact, your own nation (assuming you're American) have attacked at least one soverign nation for doing the same thing. I dare say, if everyone else shared your vision of justice, we'd be fighting WWIII right now. US vs. The World...

Why don't America just act according to the image they're so keen to project, i wonder?

It is not a crime to fight US troops. It's called war. He is an enemy combatant and a traitor under Commonwealth Law. He has commited no crime on US soil, but has commited a crime against Australia. It's that simple.

The USA broke international law by invading Iraq. If the UN locked all of the soldiers involved up without trial for war crimes what would America do?

I can't believe I wasted my 300th post answering such a stupid post.

No, the final step is destroying the "Labor" party - after the Libs are gone.
