Hurricanes, oil prices, war.....

What do YOU think the future hold?

It's going to be smooth sailing from here on out. No more storms, no oil shortages, diseases will disappear, peace and brotherhood will break out everywhere. What can I say? I'm an optimist.

There are rough seas ahead, that's all I can say.

the yellowstone supervolcano will erupt and end all life on the planet...

First, global warming will happen. Incidentally, it will be triggered by an extra large emission of CO2 by Yellowstone's supervolcano eruption which, although not as devestating as expected, will do the atmosphere some serious damage. The advance in the greenhouse effect will half-melt the icecaps and flood the oceans with more freshwater, causing the overall density of the oceans to fall and certain ocean-based currents to shut off e.g. the gulf stream. Everywhere currently below sea level +50m disappears, leaving many former countries as scattered islands and swampland. While most places experience a 5K temp. rise, the UK will suffer from the lack of gulf stream and average temperatures will fall slightly, whilst more extreme weather is experienced (only no weather below 273K, just 9 months of mildness with heavy rain and then 3 months of baking heat and horrific thunderstorms). The global rise in temperature will result in faster water evaporation, especially at central latitudes. Desertification of many Tropics nations happens rapidly and huge swathes of rainforest are lost in the new bi-annual mass flooding of the Amazon. The increase in CO2 also lowers the pH of the sea to the point that many microbes can no longer thrive. Ocean diversity drastically reduces. Humankind suffers from the loss of massive areas of once-inhabitable land - the loss of fertile farming land and housing means more cramped living conditions and less food. The poor die off. The new isolation of land once collectively known as certain countries leads to friction amongst new island dwellers and the rise of small factions or 'tribes'. Nations break apart, people become isolationist, most international trade ceases as all ports are lost, communication breaks down between islands, technology is forgotten and lost. People who managed to salvage non-engine powered ships and yachts make a killing ferrying news between islands. Much of the US is gone (Yellowstone), much of Europe is gone (flooding), much of Africa/S. America is gone (droughts and famine). China simply orders mass uphevals of people from the coast to inland, creating new ports as it goes and managing to continue trade with Asian Nations and Australians Eventually, China takes over these important survivng nations in the name of Emperor Ming (newly instated after rioting leads to the fall of communism and the rise of imperialism). China advances rapidly in the Emperor's name, blasting into space and creating colonies first on the moon, then Mars. The invention of wormhole manipulation technology leads to intergalactic travel, and Ming's empire encompasses whole galaxies. However, this empire is overthrown after thousands of millennia of rule by someone from a backward little planet where A'murikken Fuutborl has been reinvented (A'murikken Fuutborl, like Gin and Tonic, appears throughout the Universe in various forms. This particular version is similar to our current one, only interesting to watch). That someone - is called Flash Gordon.

What does the future hold?
Nothing good. Or rather, more bad than good certainly. I'm not quite enough of a pessimist to suggest that nothing good is going to happen, so I'll go for the slightly toned down version: Very little good.

Actually let's put it this way: I have very little confidence in the human race.
