The Children of Beer

From following various Evolution Vs Creationism debates on here, and its various offshoots, I have come to the conclusion that, for the most part, they are a waste of time and energy. From time to time I've added my two cents worth, i've probably spent about a dollar by now on the subject. Although it doesnt seem like there has been a whole lot of impact either incoming or outgoing.
As someone who believes the theory of evolution I have possibly become a little more understanding in the views of creationists. However, for my personal views I've simply been presented with a whole heap more evidence for evolution than i previously was aware of. Thus making me an even stronger supporter of the Theory.
Anyway, I dont want this thread becoming another such debate. What i DO want to know is if there is anyone out there who has had any significant change of attitude through these online debates. Are there any spectators sitting on the sidelines of these debates who has learned enough to form an informed opinion from a previous state lacking in knowledge? If so, which way are you swinging towards?
Bottom Line: Is there really enough of a point to justify these debates beyond a sense of personal intellectual self-gratification?
