Prayer thread for victims of Katrina
Louisiana Governor Blanco Announces Day of Prayer
Governor Kathleen Blanco of Louisiana called for a day of prayer on Wednesday, August 31 with these words: "As we face the devastation wrought by Katrina, as we search for those in need, as we comfort those in pain and as we begin the long task of rebuilding, we turn to God for strength, hope and comfort.
I have declared August 31, 2005, a Day of Prayer in the State of Louisiana. I am asking that all of Louisiana take some time Wednesday to pray. Pray for the victims and the rescuers. Please pray that God give us all the physical and spiritual strength to work through this crisis and rebuild.
Please pray for patience for those anxiously waiting to hear from family members or to get word about their homes. Pray for the safety of our hard-working rescuers and those they are bringing to safety.
I know, by praying together on Wednesday, that we can pull together and draw strength we need; strength, that only God can give us.
In my prayers, I will also thank God for the strong and resilient people of this state and how they are working to meet this challenge."
I created this thread so that all people of faith, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, B'hai, etc, can join our voices together to pray for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The conditions are bad and deteriorating quickly. Please allow me to offer the first prayer. Add yours as your heart and soul leads you. Together, I believe that we can make a difference.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Father, we ask you to look with mercy on our brothers and sisters lost in the confusion and despair of the aftermath of Katrina. Please lead them to safety and soothe their fear and hurt. Please touch the hearts of those who are inflicting more pain and suffering and turn them to your work. Teach your children to love and help each other in this terrible time. We pray for healing, consolation, brotherhood, food and drink, protection from danger, and stability. Especially grace the children with your love and protection. Please give strength to the search and rescure teams, the aid workers, and all those giving what they have to offer.
Father, we know that this is not your doing. We place ourselves in your hands to use us as you need to make it through this disaster.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Please join me, add your prayers, and join together in the name of God.

Well, I'm the Nazz, not Fass, but that's okay. That's my hometown that's been hurt so badly down there; I could do no less.

Oops...sorry about that. Didn't pay close enough attention, as usual. My husband has a lot of people down in that area. Most everybody around here has ties down there.

It doesnt matter wheter or not the govener asks for prayer or for a moment of silence as of right now. As far as I am concerned all the govener is doing is asking people to show a little respect for those who died and were effected by the katrina. End rant
My heart goes out to those who have suffered from this storm.
I really don't pray for other people. I find it a waste of time. However. I do hope the victims of Katrina will be OK. :fluffle:

Glorified and sanctified be God's great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen.
May His great name be blessed forever and to all eternity.
Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen.
May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us
and for all Israel; and say, Amen.
He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen.

I'm an atheist, I don't pray. But my heart goes out to all those affected by this disaster. May the clean up go as fast as possible and let there be as low as possible death from this. I can only hope that these people can put their lives back together. My heart really goes out to them, especially those in New Orleans!

For those who suffer,
and those who cry this night,
give them repose, Lord;
a pause in their burdens.
Let there be minutes
where they experience peace,
not of man
but of angels.
Love them, Lord,
when others cannot.
Hold them, Lord,
when we fail with human arms.
Hear their prayers
and give them the ability to hear You back
in whatever language they best understand.

O Thou kind Lord! We are servants of Thy Threshold, taking shelter at Thy holy Door. We seek no refuge save only this strong pillar, turn nowhere for a haven but unto Thy safekeeping. Protect us, bless us, support us, make us such that we shall love but Thy good pleasure, utter only Thy praise, follow only the pathway of truth, that we may become rich enough to dispense with all save Thee, and receive our gifts from the sea of Thy beneficence, that we may ever strive to exalt Thy Cause and to spread Thy sweet savors far and wide, that we may become oblivious of self and occupied only with Thee, and disown all else and be caught up in Thee.
O Thou Provider, O Thou Forgiver! Grant us Thy grace and loving-kindness, Thy gifts and Thy bestowals, and sustain us, that we may attain our goal. Thou art the Powerful, the Able, the Knower, the Seer; and, verily, Thou art the Generous, and, verily, Thou art the All-Merciful, and, verily, Thou art the Ever-Forgiving, He to Whom repentance is due, He Who forgiveth even the most grievous of sins.

O Lord, my God and my Haven in my distress! My Shield and my Shelter in my woes! My Asylum and Refuge in time of need and in my loneliness my Companion! In my anguish my Solace, and in my solitude a loving Friend! The Remover of the pangs of my sorrows and the Pardoner of my sins!
Wholly unto Thee do I turn, fervently imploring Thee with all my heart, my mind and my tongue, to shield me from all that runs counter to Thy will in this, the cycle of Thy divine unity, and to cleanse me of all defilement that will hinder me from seeking, stainless and unsullied, the shade of the tree of Thy grace.
Have mercy, O Lord, on the feeble, make whole the sick, and quench the burning thirst.
Gladden the bosom wherein the fire of Thy love doth smolder, and set it aglow with the flame of Thy celestial love and spirit.
Robe the tabernacles of divine unity with the vesture of holiness, and set upon my head the crown of Thy favor.
Illumine my face with the radiance of the orb of Thy bounty, and graciously aid me in ministering at Thy holy threshold. *30*
Make my heart overflow with love for Thy creatures and grant that I may become the sign of Thy mercy, the token of Thy grace, the promoter of concord amongst Thy loved ones, devoted unto Thee, uttering Thy commemoration and forgetful of self but ever mindful of what is Thine.
O God, my God! Stay not from me the gentle gales of Thy pardon and grace, and deprive me not of the wellsprings of Thine aid and favor.
'Neath the shade of Thy protecting wings let me nestle, and cast upon me the glance of Thine all-protecting eye.
Loose my tongue to laud Thy name amidst Thy people, that my voice may be raised in great assemblies and from my lips may stream the flood of Thy praise.

O God, my God! Thou art my Hope and my Beloved, my highest Aim and Desire! With great humbleness and entire devotion I pray to Thee to make me a minaret of Thy love in Thy land, a lamp of Thy knowledge among Thy creatures, and a banner of divine bounty in Thy dominion.
Number me with such of Thy servants as have detached themselves from everything but Thee, have sanctified themselves from the transitory things of this world, and have freed themselves from the promptings of the voicers of idle fancies.
Let my heart be dilated with joy through the spirit of confirmation from Thy kingdom, and brighten my eyes by beholding the hosts of divine assistance descending successively upon me from the kingdom of Thine omnipotent glory.

Glorified art Thou, O Lord my God! Every time I venture to make mention of Thee, I am held back by my mighty sins and grievous trespasses against Thee, and find myself wholly deprived of Thy grace, and utterly powerless to celebrate Thy praise. My great confidence in Thy bounty, however, reviveth my hope in Thee, and my certitude that Thou wilt bountifully deal with me emboldeneth me to extol Thee, and to ask of Thee the things Thou dost possess.
I implore Thee, O my God, by Thy mercy that hath surpassed all created things, and to which all that are immersed beneath the oceans of Thy names bear witness, not to abandon me unto my self, for my heart is prone to evil. Guard me, then, within the stronghold of Thy protection and the shelter of Thy care. I am he, O my God, whose only wish to what Thou hast determined by the power of Thy might. All I have chosen for myself is to be assisted by Thy gracious appointments and the ruling of Thy will, and to be aided with the tokens of Thy decree and judgment.
I beseech Thee, O Thou Who art the Beloved of the hearts which long for Thee, by the Manifestations of Thy Cause and the Daysprings of Thine inspiration, and the Exponents of Thy majesty, and the Treasuries of Thy knowledge, not to suffer me to be deprived of Thy holy Habitation, Thy Fane and Thy Tabernacle. Aid me, O my Lord, to attain His hallowed court, and to circle round His person, and to stand humbly at His door.
Thou art He Whose power is from everlasting to everlasting. Nothing escapeth Thy knowledge. Thou art, verily, the God of power, the God of glory and wisdom.

HEALING
O God, my God! I beg of Thee by the ocean of Thy healing, and by the splendors of the Daystar of Thy grace, and by Thy Name through which Thou didst subdue Thy servants, and by the pervasive power of Thy most exalted Word and the potency of Thy most august Pen, and by Thy mercy that hath preceded the creation of all who are in heaven and on earth, to purge me with the waters of Thy bounty from every affliction and disorder, and from all weakness and feebleness.
Thou seest, O my Lord, Thy suppliant waiting at the door of Thy bounty, and him who hath set his hopes on Thee clinging to the cord of Thy generosity. Deny him not, I beseech Thee, the things he seeketh from the ocean of Thy grace and the Daystar of Thy loving-kindness.
Powerful art Thou to do what pleaseth Thee. There is none other God save Thee, the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Generous.

Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come. Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
- Bahá'u'lláh
Glory be to Thee, O Lord my God! I implore Thee by Thy Name, through which Thou didst lift up the ensigns of Thy guidance, and didst shed the radiance of the loving-kindness, and didst reveal the sovereignty of Thy Lordship; through which the lamp of Thy names hath appeared within the niche of Thine attributes, and He Who is the Tabernacle of Thy unity and the Manifestation of detachment hath shone forth; through which the ways of Thy guidance were made known, and the paths of Thy good pleasure were marked out; through which the foundations of error have been made to tremble, and the signs of wickedness have been abolished; through which the fountains of wisdom have burst forth, and the heavenly table hath been sent down; *87* through which Thou didst preserve Thy servants and didst vouchsafe Thy healing; through which Thou didst show forth Thy tender mercies unto Thy servants and revealedst Thy forgiveness amidst Thy creatures - I implore Thee to keep safe him who hath held fast and returned unto Thee, and clung to Thy mercy, and seized the hem of Thy loving providence. Send down, then, upon him with a constancy vouchsafed by Thee, and a tranquillity bestowed by Thy highness.

I just have a quick prayer request. My church and I were down in New Orleans this summer on a Missions trip to aid the homeless, clean up the streets, do some hard work, et cetera, and we met and made friends with a lot of people down there. Just watching all those lives and all that work we did in a span of a couple weeks go down in a day is just outrageous to us. So, I just would like some guys to pray for the guys we worked with down in N'awlins, and their safety. Thanks.

There's currently a faculty-led petition going around on our campus for a call for all students, faculty, and employees alike to all leave school for a week and head to those areas that were hit hardest by Katrina. I think that's kind of impractical, seeing as there's about two-thousand some-odd that will need transport, food, and shelter for that week, but the idea itself is kinda neat. Maybe it will inspire groups to leave and help out. I know I'll certainly try during Fall Break (Oct. 3-7).

In the Name of God, the Lord of overpowering majesty, and All-Compelling.
Hallowed be the Lord in Whose hand is the source of dominion. He createth whatsoever He willeth by His Word of command "Be," and it is. His hath been the power of authority heretofore, and it shall remain His hereafter. He maketh victorious whomsoever He pleaseth, through the potency of His behest. He is in truth the Powerful, the Almighty. Unto Him pertaineth all glory and majesty in the kingdoms of Revelation and Creation and whatever lieth between them. Verily, He is the Potent, the All-Glorious. From everlasting He hath been the Source of indomitable strength and shall remain so unto everlasting. He is indeed the Lord of might and power. All the kingdoms of heaven and earth and whatever is between them are God's, and His power is supreme over all things. All the treasures of earth and heaven and everything between them are His, and His protection extendeth over all things. He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth and whatever lieth between them, and He truly is a witness over all things. He is the Lord of Reckoning for all that dwell in the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. Verily, He is the Supreme Protector. He holdeth in His grasp the keys of heaven and earth and of everything between them. At His Own pleasure doth He bestow gifts, through the power of His command. Indeed His grace encompasseth all, and He is the All-Knowing.
Say: God sufficeth unto me; He is the One Who holdeth in His grasp the kingdom of all things. Through the power of His hosts of heaven and earth and whatever lieth between them, He protecteth whomsoever among His servants He willeth. God, in truth, keepeth watch over all things.
Immeasurably exalted art Thou, O Lord! Protect us from what lieth in front of us and behind us, above our heads, on our right, on our left, below our feet and every other side to which we are exposed. Verily, Thy protection over all things is unfailing.[1]

I was just sent this email by my university's faculty:
Regarding JBU’s Support of Students Affected by Hurricane Katrina
September 1, 2005
President Chip Pollard announced Thursday that in response to the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, John Brown University will waive tuition, fee, room, and board charges for the fall 2005 semester to students who are currently enrolled at institutions closed as a result of the storm. Eligible students will be served to the limits of institutional capacity in residence halls and classes.
The application requirements and process have been modified to accommodate these students needing to quickly join our student body. Those interested should contact the admissions office by September 16 at (877) 528-4636 (ext. “0”) for additional information and a determination of eligibility.
I just gotta say that I'm very happy that I go to this school. It's for the community as a whole and not the leeching of their funds. Wee.
That's wonderful. I know that I am starting to see ads in our local newspaper for part time and temporary jobs for refugees. I'll pass on your college's policy to people I know at our local universities and maybe they can do something similar here in Arkansas.
Thank you God for providing us with the imagination, fortitude, and determination to think of multitudes of ways to help our brothers and sisters.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Dear Father, please make your presence known to those who are wreaking havoc and further victimizing the good people in New Orleans and along the gulf. Open their eyes to see that their actions are causing the suffering and death of innocents and make them repentent. Lend your strength and will to the National Guard and the police to quell this savagery. Lend your strength and wisdom to the aid workers that they may provide aid and comfort where it is needed most. Lend your strength and forbearance to our government leaders to make the best decisions. Most especially, Father, please give your suffering children comfort and the knowledge that they are in your loving embrace. Let them know that they are not alone and forgotten.
I ask this is faith and love of You, Father.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen

Hail Mary, full of Grace the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of
our death, Amen.
Good Catholic student! Made me think, why not offer a link to how to pray the Rosary? So here it is....

HAIL, HOLY QUEEN, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Thank you Lord for giving us your guidance in quelling the unrest and tending to the victims of this storm. Please guide us in continuing to care for them, soothe their hearts and minds, and open up our hearts to accept them into our communities. Make homes and jobs available to them so that they may make new stable lives. Thank you for the outpouring of assistance from all over the world. May we have unlimited resources to help these people and may the international cooperation grow and build into international acceptance and peace.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

How about a big old fluffle. :fluffle:
It's only through love for our fellow man that we can hope to recover from this. Or a smiley. :) Not everything is set right again, but it is showing great improvement. Or a big smiley. :D Because New Orleans and the other gulf communities WILL BE BACK!!

FYI, my husband and I have made a donation through Catholic Charities and we are in the process of arranging to have a refugee family come live with us.
Great.
I'm surprised how many people there are here who are speaking in ye Olde Englishe. But I guess it's still valid.
I pray especially for those without food, water or shelter.
I pray that the American Government do all they can to help.
I pray that nothing as bad as this happens again in our lives.
My prayer may be short, but it counts!

Goodthoughts quotes from the teachings of the B'hai faith and they are mostly in olde English. I always find them especially uplifting, insightful, and inspirational. I always go to Goodthoughts for moral inspiration...and he always provides a well thought out answer.

My thoughts, my prayers, my heart is *going out* to people -
wtf? Just donate money or volunteer if you're near the affected areas. All this prayer bullshit is more for people sitting safely at their computer screens than any victims.

You seem to miss the fact that not everyone can go out and volunteer.
This is a prayer thread, and like I said earlier in this thread, if you have nothing to contribute to it, then don't post at all.

One of the benefits of the Revelation of Baha'u'llah is the great outpouring of the prayers that came from the tongue of Baha'u'llah. Christ, because of the condition of the time, was able to have just a relativity few words recorded.
You already posted all the Bahai prayers I was going to post here.
Here is one to answer those who would say New Orleans deserved such a thing:
Blessed is the spot, and the house, and the place, and the city, and the heart, and the mountain, and the refuge, and the cave, and the valley, and the land, and the sea, and the island, and the meadow where mention of God hath been made, and His praise glorified. --Bahá'u'lláh
All are desrving of God's Grace and Healling.
