WBC and Katrina: It was only a matter of time...

Well, it's official, Fred Phelps and his psychotic, tax-exempt cult are "thanking God" for Hurricane Katrina.

Warning: Link (http://www.godhatesfags.com/featured/20050831_thank-god-for-katrina.html)

I for one saw this coming from a mile away. I decided some time ago to stop letting this guy get to me.

Still, I find all this rather...depressing...I'm very, VERY surprised this man hasn't been mugged/stabbed/shot/lynched yet.

Well, eveybody knew Phelps would say that. What I'd like to know is Phelps' opinion on the looting.

Going after Phelps is not worth being bubba's new girlfriend in jail. Eventually he will die and I hope that he is wrong. Because if he is right...... well I can't even begin to fathom that possibilty right now.

Arrest the fucker. Right now.

I'm serious, dial 911 right now, tell the police that religious extremists within the US have made a website glorifying the hurricane's effect and give them Phelps's home address.

Yeah. I take heart in the fact that he'll probably die slowly from the cancer that's currently eating away at his insides.

Because if he is right...... well I can't even begin to fathom that possibilty right now.

Man, I don't WANT to fathom that...

Man, I don't WANT to fathom that...

It reminds me of the South Park where the mormons were the only correct religion.

Phelps brought his travelling hate circus to my town a few months back. Word went out from assorted community leaders: Ignore him. Don't counter-protest, don't try to make him see reason, don't even acknowlege his existence. Deny him the attention he seeks.

Guess what? It worked. He looked exactly like what he was: A pathetic, isolated freak who nobody took seriously.

So just ignore him. It's the best revenge.

I vote we extradite Fred Phelps as a terrorist.

Where were you living?

WBC hit three towns in Massachusetts in June. Myself and some friends from AI (Whom I call the "Militant Wing of Amnesty International) went there ourselves.

Our plan was less...subtle than yours. It involved picket signs and Elton John blasted out of a big-ass Dolby Surround Sound.

It was fun! Made me feel better! :D

Where were you living?

Durham, NC.

Given Phelp's penchant for offending nearly everyone, we probably could have turned out a significant percentage of the city to protest him if we'd wanted to. But ignoring him worked, and didn't require making half the city police force turn out on a Sunday morning to keep thousands of protesters in order. :p

Always a good thing.

Probably something cliche' and contradictary. Like "Thank God for the looting! May the looters burn in Hell!"

Anyone ever see that "Bruno" character from Da Ali G show? He's like an ultra-effeminate gay austrian fashion guy. He interviews designers and models mostly. It would be great to see him interview Fred Phelps.

This is probably the fourth Fred Phelps thread I've seen in the past week ... seriously people, just ignore him, and he will go away, or expire eventually. The media attention that you're giving him is exactly what he wants. If you want him to stop his hate-speech, just forget about him ... that's the only way to fight him.

Because sometimes there are people so bigoted, so ignorant and so hateful that it's impossible to ignore them.

My way of fighting him is to raise awareness among people who aren't so closed minded.

It's not just Phelps--there's a group nemd Repent America that's said the very same thing (http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/08/083105nola.htm), and this isn't a fringe group. They've been defended publicly, this year, by the Alliance Defense Fund, who counts among its founders the following "ministers:"
ADF’s Founders:
# Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ
# Larry Burkett, founder of Christian Financial Concepts
# Rev. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family
# Rev. D. James Kennedy, founder of Coral Ridge Ministries
# Marlin Maddoux, President of International Christian Media
# Don Wildmon, founder of American Family Association
(And 25+ other ministries)
This is Bush's base here, folks, and they openly support the non-Phelps guy who just said New Orleans was destroyed by God because of all the homosexuality there.

By the way, I pass that Kennedy fuck's church every day on my way to work, and it angers me just to see it because of what it represents.

I've heard the name, but who exactly is this Fred Phelps? Is he more akin to Jerry Falwell, or David Koresh?
