They'd be a rich well educated minority so I doubt they'd need that stuff.

I hope some things change--I hope that racism becomes less prevalent and that groups that have been minorities and the social underclass are able to achieve economic and social parity for starters.

But will ratial tensions build up?

It doesn't really matter a whole lot to me. I don't see why skin color is so important. I would hope that other people stop caring so much too.

The worst thing that'll happen is that everyone eventually goes the same hybrid colour. Which would be a shame… little variety.

when they first came to the US in large numbers, southern europeans werent considered "white" they were "swarthy"

they were considered to be of a different race than good anglo-american "white" people

somewhere along the way they were "reclassified" as white

the same thing will happen to light skinned hispanics. hispanic isnt a race in any case so its silly to compare "white" to "hispanic"

Affirmative Action isn't given to minorities, it's given to oppressed peoples. Jews are a minority, but weren't put in nearly as shitty a position as people of color, therefore no affirmative action. Whites, even as a minority, will not have been an oppressed people.

Hopefully a person of color will eventually hold the presidency, but there's only 1 Black senator, so how about more office holders of color, in general.

Just becoming a minority doesn't make you into a rapper.

Minorities are not inherently underpriveleged, but most minorities have experienced institutionalised racism in their history in the US. Unless that happens to whites as well, they won't be coming up as an underclass in the future.

Even if whites do become a minority, it will be a non-issue by that time. Race is loosing importance fast. I think the only people who still seriously care about race are a few ageing blacks that worked with Martin Luther King, like Jesse Jackson.
That being said, four states have whites as a minority: California, Hawaii, Texas, and Arizona. Two states, New York and Georgia, will have white minorities within a decade.

Is there another country on the planet where skin pigmentation matters so much as in the USA?

American math:
a) a Euro-Am and an Afro-Am have a baby. What 'race' is it?

The correct answer is human race and that should be the end of it, but for history and the penchant of the government to want to pigeon-hole people based on their color and ethnic origin.

The issue that one should be discussing here is whether those future people will have a national health care system, decent educational and job chances, and a halfway decent life (free of crime, of pollution, of 'patriot act', etc.

I am Cherokee, Chikasaw, Choctaw, French, Italian, British, Jewish, Chinese (I recently found out I am of Chinese ancestry! I had no clue!) and African American (I say this because it is quite impossible to track my origins in Africa due to slavery and lack of record keeping during this period). I am caramel skinned, but I have not ceased to be white, just as I have not ceased to be black. I'm all these things and I celebrate all my backgrounds as if they were my own, because they are.

Well usually here in the US we don't break stuff down like that. If you're light skinned you are white, if you're dark skinned you are either black, latino, or middle eastern. That's IT. Sad, but that's how it is when people file police reports and stuff.
