Ok so last night my husband was all 'I wanna go see a movie!' and I went 'Oooh! That sounds like fun!' and he checked the listings and said 'ooooohhhhH! I wanna see the new Batman film!' and inside I went 'oh crap not ANOTHER freaking batman movie...' but we went anyway and it was totally spiffy!

I guess they based this movie off of an alternate line of batman comics than the other four have been on, so it's basically very similar with a few plot differences... like batman's (spoiler hidden)a totally awesome freaking ninja psycho kickin ass guy instead of some random rich dude who has a bunch of money and no training. I don't understand why the girl was there, but I've not read the comics so meh, but I really enjoyed it! And they had tons of fun with his batmobile which was awesome, I've always thought that was sort of underplayed. Gary Oldman was in it too, and he's like my favortie actor of all time, even if he wasn't playing a bad guy.

Anyway, I was wondering what you who have seen it thought, and you who haven't what you've heard and likelihood of going or renting it or whatever.

I thought it was a very good movie, and managed to actually be about Batman in a way the other movies to date hadn't.

It actually explored an element of Batman that I hadn't really thought of on the surface, that in reality Batman is about the fight with himself, and the villians are really just manifestations of that battle.

Ra's Ah Ghoul is Batman's vengence, Scarecrow is his fear, etc...

In that respect I thought it was an incredible film, one of the best superhero movies ever made.

I haven't seen it. The pre-release chatter that I've heard has ranged from "Oh great, not another horrible super hero movie." to "For me, this is the equivalent of the second coming. It's going to be great!". I'm leaning toward 'great', myself. I looked at its web site last month and it sounded extremely cool. I'll rent the movie when it comes out for sure. Our local rental store has a great deal on renting new releases so I haven't gone to the theater for years.

It was based more on what the comics are. There were only a few differences.

1. Ra's Al Goul is a GLOBAL enviornmental terrorist. He is such a DAMNED good villain because his perception is rather justified if he wasn't a megalomaniac also out to serve his own means. In otherwords, him only caring about Gotham because of "corruption" was rather.. odd. But I guess most of the audience doesn't even know how cool he is to begin with. In the comics, Ra's Al Goul is definitely better than the Joker in terms of character and antagonist.

2. NO love intrest for Batman. This chick wasn't needed. However, they handled her well by becoming someone who details what drives Bruce Wayne's determination. Batman does NOT boarder on insane crimefighter to get some pooty. If there are ANY chicks that Batman would take intrest in they are Talia (Ra's Al Goul's daughter, and of course Catwoman.)
