My initial reaction to this was that it was pretty funny. On reflection, it's a bit a) infantile, b) derivative and c) given the subject, faintly sick. Nonetheless, it still brings a smile to my face that there is (was?) a terrorist group called MILF.
I was reading up on the Phillipines, and I came across the MNLF - the Moro National Liberation Front. They seemed to be a nationalist paramilitary group. Then, I discovered that in 1978, a splinter cell demanding secession for Mindanao broke loose from the main body, and called themselves the Moro Islamic Liberation Front - the MILF. Given that the MILF perpetrated acts of terrorism and were purged by government forces, it's a little sick I know.
Nonetheless, some of the sentences in this book cracked me up: 'the MILF initiated attacks on churches'; 'the MILF demanded recognition of 13 'MILF Camps' as legitimate territories; 'the government agreed to recognise 39 'MILF Camps' as safe areas'; 'hostility characterised relations between the Presidential advisor, Robert Aventajado, and the MILF'; 'the army accused the MILF of encroaching on its territory'; and, well, so it goes on.
I apologise in advance if there are any people who lost relatives to the MILF or something: I mean no offence. Nonetheless, I think I would find it pretty hard to take threats of 'MILF action' seriously. Are there any other ridiculously immaturely but nonetheless sniggeringly amusingly named terror cells, or the like?
