A different kind of Israel thread

I can make a long-winded speech, about the all debates over Israel-Palestine....but i won't. Unless this counts as one...oO

In this thread, we shall talk about Israeli Economics! Yay....or anything that pertains to Israel (save for the conflict) you may talk about the rising economy...ways they could improve it. Technology, Trade, Culture, etc.

Let's have a nice civil discussion on Israel.

So once again.....no mentioning anything to Palestine whatsover.

Well actually you can mention things with Palestinians, but nothing to do with the conflict.

So....here's my starting post. How's that Shwarma? It's the Israeli equivalent of a Taco...more or less. Yup.

Most people think of Florida, when think Oranges.

And Old Jews retire in Florida....

Hey are you insulting us! -.-

Err...yeah, Israel probably does grow oranges still... From what i can tell they mostly come from Jaffa.

If they are American, which I am not, so...

Florida is insult enough to itself. The Jews are blamed for so much else, I should hardly think you'd need to get them involved in that.

Mmm, Jaffa cakes! And people wonder why I'm bad at boycotting Israeli goods.

Here's a question: Israel: better or worse than Europe?

Israel is a very nice country, and is very comparable to Europe.

You can compare us to the Republic of Ireland....hopefully people should get this. ;)

Fass: Well that's because Israel laces it's food with Cocaine...why do you think boycotts never last? mwahahhahahahah!

It's cheaper then getting it off the street. ;)

Buy a Israeli watermelon, in case those small cakes and cookies do you no good. ;p

BTW, what is Israel's economy based on? I know that they have that big pipeline connecting Elaz to the Mediteranian. Other than that, the only thing that I can think of is that they invented the Uzi.

Well yes and no.

I wasn't raised in Israel, although my culture is Israeli. I was raised in Canada.

Although oddly enough they never taught me Hebrew. =\

As for Dana...not sure, i hear "she" still does albums, but she's not really famous anymore. Although i must admit, she is rather entertaining.

Any plans on picking it up?

I can still hum that song. And I remember seeing her riding a banana once. Israel had a nice spokesperson for a while, at least.

They make canned dog and cat food in Jenin and other anthroprocessing facilities, of course ;)

Ok Your parents are both Swedish (i'm assuming) But let's say they moved to Denmark....You were raised Danish (mmmmmmmm), Your still a Swede nonetheless aren't you? Then again you could identify yourself more as a Dane if you wanted to. But for me...Canada technically has no culture..., so i was raised purely by my parents teachings. Thus Israeli teachings. =) Hope that makes sense

Any plans on picking it up?
Yup, as i am moving to Israel after college, my father is now teaching me slowly new phrases every day. Ani 1337. That's Hebrew for I am 1337. =D

Dunno which one your talking about.

Buddist's: That's only because i took away any conversation relating to the conflict. ;)

My parents actually aren't Swedish, but they raised me as such, so I'm pretty much monocultural. They did teach me to speak their language, though, but only because they wanted me to be to be able to speak to my grandmothers.

And, Canada has tonnes of culture. It's older than Israel, so if Israel can have culture, so can Canada.

I tried learning it once, but the "alphabet" was too hard. I wanted to understand what was on the walls of a synagogue closed to where I lived, but I couldn't read it.

Close enough. =)

Debateable, Israel's culture is from Judaism, and Judaism is much more older then Canada. ;) And i can't really consider Canada having a culture...too hard for me. To me a culture, you have to already speak a different language. But meh, you have your own definition.

Well you have to learn to live with the language.... If you get a picture of the synagouge i can translate.

Israel, Israel... what do I think of when I think of Israel... oranges? Do they still have those orchards? Sadly, many of the orchards are being torn down to make space for new suburban housing devlopements. Israel's limmited fertile land, that was once covered in cirtus trees is beeing(mostly already has been, actually) frittered away, at least in the coastal area.

anyway...Israel... yeah.
Fass, Israel has tonnes of culture, and as another Israeli/Canadian, I have to agree with MuhOre that it's more interesting than Canada's.

I have a question: in Europe, is it mainstream to think the "boycott Israel" campaign is okay, or even subscribe to it?
