Am I the only one who doesn't give a...? Episode VI: These Idiots

Yeah, I was supporting the protestors right to protest on another thread, but seriously, am I the only one who wouldn't give a shit if all these idiots went home?

First of all, Cindy Sheehan needs to go. I'd seriously tired of hearing her speak. In fact, I'm tired of being reminded that she still breathes my fucking air. She's a callous rabblerouser that stoops to new lows by using her dead son as a political weapon, accuses the president of murder while there is nothing illegal about his affiliation with her son's death, accuses the president of sending her son to war while the U.S. military is currently voluntary, and is generally annoying as all hell.

Then comes her mindless followers, gathering in support of her oh-so-righteous cause - and, to be honest, I don't know who to hate more. She who started it, or the drones that help it to continue?

Maybe I'll hate the American media more, seeing as they're what's keeping this bitch going. Don't they know that when you give an idiot the attention they desire, it just provokes them to seek more? I mean, seriously. Especially Fox. They don't even want this protesting to go on, and yet they are still covering it, giving the protestors inspiration to continue.

I know! I'll hate these new idiots that have recently formed a counter protest. Jesus Christ, people, how stupid can you fucking get? If you want someone to stop talking to you, do you engage them in a conversation? No, not unless you're fucking retarded. With these new assholes, these counter protestors, the original protestors and that whore Cindy has a group to compete with directly, and nobody likes losing a competition, especially when they think they deserve to end. These asshole counter protestors are just going to make this shit that they claim to be annoyed by go on even longer.

So, truly, people. Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit if all these protestors go home? I'd rather them be replaced with a thousand screaming girls at a boy-band concert than remain the annoying morons that they are.

Dear NationStates mods, whom I love so much: I cleaned this one up massively. If it's still too obscene, tell me, but I'm 99.9% sure that it's tame enough.

You know, even if I hated both sides with a passion--and I don't--I'd still rather have them out there screaming away than have them sitting at home glued to the idiot box. Aggravating as it may be, protest and counter-protest are the signs of a vigorous democracy, and if it's vigorous, it ain't dead. This may be ugly and it may be tiresome, but it isn't dead, and that's the most important bit of all.

Heh, I think I've enough faith left in America to believe that democracy is still alive without loudmouthed protestors letting me know on a daily basis in the most annoying way possible.

I don't even care whether or not they go home. They can stay in Crawford if they like. I really don't give a shit.

And don't hate the White House press corps. They're stranded in Crawford. They literally have nothing else to do.

Cover happy shit for once? I'm sure some school got a bunch of money somewhere for a cool research project, or some prodigy got a full ride to some sweet college, or France sunk leaving a new lake in Europe, or something.

I don't. I'm a firm believer in the idea that corporate America would rather have us dumb and happy and spending money than anything else in the world, and every time someone rises up in protest, no matter what they're protesting, it's proof to me that we haven't lost our individual souls.

Look, Democracy is ugly and messy and it's the worst kind of government except for all the rest of them out there, and in my opinion, part of the lifeblood is a populace that gets pissed off enough to get out in the streets and raise some hell about something that's bugging them, even if I think that something is offensive to me or to what I believe America ought to stand for (like the Klan, for instance). So I applaud them--both sides--even though I think the counter-protesters are idiots--because they care enough to let their voices be heard above the babble we call a media.

Besides, if we didn't have the Cheehan protest/counter-protest and this hurricane, what would be on the news? Natalee fucking Holloway. That's what I'm tired of--this "where the white women at" joke of a news media we have in this country.

The only way America started in the first place is with loud mouthed protestors finally motivating people enough for them to take up arms. The only way decisive progress in America starts with loud mouthed protestors (Unions, Civil Rights Movement.)

The only way we will continue to prosper is by loud mouthed protestors waking people up and motivating them. The ones who have invalid points will quickly drift away.

On the contrary, that appears to be EXACTLY what he is doing... attacking the platforms of pretty much all and sundry, because he doesn't want to listen to them.

There are some issues out there I don't care to hear about... and you know what I do? I regulate my own exposure to such material. I don't spend my time cursing (and the language the OP has used is pretty inflammatory) those individuals.

So - it's non-partisan trolling. I'd still call it trolling.

I repeat: They're stuck in Crawford. Nothing happy, or cool, or sweet happens in Crawford. Unless the Branch Davidians have gone back to Waco for more, this is the closest thing to a news story for 87.27 miles.* These people are used to covering national politics in D.C., and they are bored out of their skulls.

Well, it is a legit story, at least more legit than the "where the white women at" stories we've been inundated with recently. This at least has some resonance with a lot of Americans, no matter who you support, and it ought to, because US soldiers are dying, and if that's not worthy of debate, what is?

I can't find any fault with your points. The worst I can say about the Cindy Sheehan story is that it bores me. Thanks to this forum, I've seen all the arguments for and against the war rehashed a hundred times over. Maybe, like you say, it's doing some people out there some good. I hope that's the case. Regardless, I'm sure it would never have gotten so ink if Bush had stayed at work.

Hell, it wouldn't have gotten any ink if Bush had come out on the first or second day and just talked to her, whether she deserved it or not. It's simple PR--you don't let the opposition define the battle. He messed that up.

I said this long ago on one of the early Sheehan threads--do you think that Clinton would have let this happen? If he'd had someone protesting outside his vacation home demanding a talk and rousing the media to cover it, Clinton would have been out there in his seductive best and had that person loving him before it was all over, or at the very least, would have satisfied the demand to the point where there would have been no story. Clinton was just smooth like that.

I don't know who was running Bush's PR team right then, but if I'd been doing it, I'd have told Bush, "you either get out there and defuse this thing now or you find another PR guy," because this kind of debacle is inexcusable from a PR standpoint.

Of course, as a partisan Democrat, I'm glad he fucked it up and is suffering at the polls as a result.

Agreed on all but the last. I'd prefer to see our president not fuck up, no matter who he is or what party he's in. :)

Yes, Gymoor, I understand that and agree somewhat. However, this is a special scenario, as the incredible news coverage of this situation coupled with the idiots that have risen to counter the original protestors will keep both groups, neither of whom really has made a valid point, going for much longer than they would have without it. They aren't quickly drifting away because they're keeping each other busy, which is what's annoying me, and which is why I want them to go home.

I'd just like to say thank you, to all of the people who hate Cindy Sheehan so much.
I want to say thanks to everyone would thinks she shouldnt be allowed to protest on and on, and continue to beat this dead horse.

I say this becuase I LOVE the fact that it pisses so many people off so badly..all they can do is talk endlessly about it, and make so many damn threads about it.

I say THANKS for giving Mrs Sheehan the very thing she wants most:

Attention.

Keep up the bitching and whining folks!

Basically I think it's a media distraction so we won't pay attention to anything the government is/isn't doing. They love to do that.

But no way would i have them replaced with screamin teenage girls at boy-band concert. No way.
