How are public-nudity laws justifiable?

I don't *currently* consider myself an ultraextreme staunch opponent of restrictions on public nudity, but I don't understand how these laws pass muster in democratic countries where laws are generally formed in accordance with the principle "You have the right to do anything that doesn't infringe on the rights of another." Surely the right to free expression (including what and how much or how little clothing one wears) trumps the nonexistent right of passersby not to be offended?

But free expression itself has limits; also, there are a lot of other risks being incurred by the legalization of public nudity, many of which are of a criminal nature.

However, allowing Hot Chicks get naked has my FULL support.

I’m a closet nudist, but I can understand your view… to a point. I don’t think it’s fair that a man with bigger breast/man-bosoms than me can trounce about the city with his shirt off.
They should either have to cover up… Or the laws should let me go topless!

I'm not sure how these ristricting laws are passed, the best I can make of it is *cough conservative* asses think that by being naked you are "infring(ing) on the rights of another"...in respect to... their right to... not want to...see people naked...or something... * and sighs*
There really shouldn't be such a big deal about it, aren't their more 'important' issues to worry about ._. oh well...
I really hate the double-side(in respect to gender) to it too... totally isn't fair!

I'm pretty libertarian on most things, but for 80% of the population, the crux of the situation borders on force, if not ourtright coersion. Yuck. :D

With around 300 million people in our country, I'm sure we can assign people to worrying about important issues and to my socially conditioned desire to avoid seeing ugly naked people.

I agree in theory. Women should be able to walk around with no shirt. But then we have to worry about ugly women with no shirts. I haven't given the issue much though, but the cute chicks might make up for any stomach-turning people I might bump in to. It's not as if I don't see enough ugliness from women who only think they look good in skimpy teenagers' cloths. It wouldn't be too great of a step to take. But I don't think I'd go any further. We need to leave some things to the imagination (and some things out of our memory).

topless should be a matter of "no shoes, no shirt, no service". if a man has to wear a shirt, a woman does too. if a business wants to allow it, then fine by me.

bottomless is a matter of hygiene. do you really want to sit on the seat just vacated by that fat smelly naked man??

Just a concept: how about a nudity license, so only attractive people can be nude in public?

or more to the point for men

do you really want to find out that the crazy homeless man sitting now naked on the train has an erection that makes yours look like a 5 year old's in comparison?

That's a good idea. We should be licensed to have sex, too. Ugly peope shouldn't be allowed to reproduce no matter what. In fact, everyone should be issued a sex quota directly related to their hotornot ranking. 9s and 10s can whenever they want; anyone under 5 can jack off and shut up. :D

I agree with this point a view. Girls should be allowed to go topless (you can in some parts of Canada) like guys can. People should be able to say people nobody can go topless on my place of buisness/property or people can go topless but no guys can girls can't.

The bottomless point is very good.

Even if it were legal, who would want to go naked? And about the "protect the children" bullcrap- lock the kid inside where he/she can..umm... watch HBO, which is, of course, pure.

Basically- You can't escape nudity.
