Just out of curiosity, I was wondering where my fellow NSers go to College/University. Since I very well can't ask for information without giving it, I'll start.
I go to Michigan State University. I live in the Brody Complex, Bryan hall.

Cal State Northridge. A pretty damn good university in my opinion.

Open.. and I made a lot of friends.. it was a little difficult opening up at first because I was so freaking shy.. but I got over it. A very open place.. one of my gay friends said jokingly.. that 30-35% of the university is either gay or bisexual. Honestly.. I really wouldn't doubt it heheheh...
and oh fuck, I start classes tomorrow btw... at least i got 4 good professors.. except one..
Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.
That's right, I go to school in the ghetto. And yes, I've been mugged, had my place broken into, and had two people get killed all within blocks of what I call home. That being said...

Dublin City University, Ireland; studying physics with astronomy.
Go on DCU!!!! :D
I don't go to one yet (still finishing High School), but I'm thinking of which ones I could choose from (pretty much any school, due to my grades, but money's a bit of an issue).
Stanford's nice, but it'll only be accessible with outrageous loans, or a scholarship. There's always Michigan or Minnesota.

I was thinking about Stanford (I'm only a high school junior now, so I have a year before I actually have to start putting together applications), sort of as a safety school. It's a great environment, if nothing else.
I think I'll probably end up going to M.I.T, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

I am thinking about going to OU in 2006. Hopefully I will get the National Merit thingy ma bob. :) I will probably major in Electrical Engineering. I have good grades, excellent course selection, and good SAT and ACT scores so I figure that I might be able to go most places but I could also succeed at most decent institutes and possibly pay less.

I have a friend who went there... he's thinking about going back (I forget the circumstances, but he left a few months into his first year.) He tried to convince me to apply there. I looked at the website - the residences look like jails.

Meh, just don't go to college. Instead make your living as a plumber, you like crap don't you? :D
Or you could just start eliminating schools for the stupidest reasons! Really, if you have a batch of schools that are all good institutions just start randomly crossing some off or basing your selection on distance, money or some other factor. What makes the person is the person not the school(unless you go to Crap Tech).

My plan is to be on the other side of the continent. Or at least as far away from here as possible. Right now, I've eliminated the three provinces immediately to the east, and there ARE no provinces to the west, so it's either the one I'm pondering here (which I had my heart set on for years) or the ones way far away ^.^ Then I can just narrow it down after I decide once and for all if I should go somewhere big (variety of people) or somewhere small (close-knit.)

I guess you have a grip on your problem, if you did not my methods would most certainly work. Besides, college is to some extent a means towards an end(or at least for me it is). You want knowledge and if you go almost anywhere you will get this knowledge, although I suppose some people only care for the experience and togas.

I just figured that he was simply joking. Because in order to think of Stanford as a safety school you must either be incredibly stupid and therefore unlikely to get in in the first place or you must be one of those geniuses that mastered calculus in 4th grade and decided to continue on to theoretical physics or something by the time you apply.

Yeah, I'm mostly in it for the learning, but even then, some schools are better than others (a degree from a community college would pale in comparison to the same degree from an Ivy League school, right?) Although the experience plays a big part if you're gonna spend 4 years of your life living it.
I go to BTU Cottbus. It's a very... boring... little town. But the University is nice. I get free internet over the University WLAN, but I have to leave the confines of my room to get it, since it falls short of reaching my room by a few meters... :(

True, but a degree from an Ivy compared to a degree from a decent non-Ivy school would probably not be that big of a difference in some ways. Most people do not go to Ivy schools and you get what you put in. Most schools probably have decent teachers.
The experience is somewhat important, just make sure that you do not screw yourself over. But if you are really good then for the most part it does not matter what school you go to(Billy Gates don't even have a college degree ;) ) You'll probably be fine, most people are fine and if you aren't fine then HA HA! :D .
Monash University. It has a pretty decent world ranking, from what I hear.
EDIT- HA, they lied to me. Looking at the world rankings, It's not that good!

I'm not going to be fine. Not at all. I'm planning on getting a B.A. in English, for crying out loud! I may as well just get a B.Ed. at the same time and work on becoming attracted to 13 year old boys. Then I'd be totally qualified to teach high school english!

Oh, I already thought you had come to terms with your choice of major. You are picking that fate and the only way to avoid something like that is to pick a different major. I am biased towards engineering so I would advise anyone that is decent at math and science to become an engineer.
Let me put it this way, you are going to be as fine as any other English major. I guess you could become a lawyer, I really do not know your interests.

Neither, but closer to the second one.
:p
When you consider that MIT is thought of as the country's toughest school to get into, anything else is just a fallback. Barring someone in the admissions office deciding that they don't like my name, I could probably get in.
