Rich or above the law???
Which in your opinion would be better? Being mega rich, or being above the law?
Being rich is good because you can afford things, give to charity, fund your conquest of the world or whatever it is you would do with money.
But if you're above the law then that would preclude the necessity of having any money because you could effectively own whatever you wanted without paying for it.
No doubt there are some practical issues that I may have overlooked but I am curious as to what everyone else thinks.
Id rather be rich and keep my morals. Being above the law would mean you could hurt and harm as many people as you wanted...who needs that at least being rich you could help instead of harm.

exactly. i'd rather be rich and keep myself to myself while abiding by the law, rather than have the obvious prerequisite of breaking the law and my own morals

When you are rich you ARE above the law.
Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous
Always see it on T.V.
Or read in a magazines
Celebrities want sympathy
All they do is piss and moan
Inside the rolling stone
Talkin' about how hard life can be
I'd like to see them spend a week
Livin' life out on the street
I don't think they would survive
If they could spend a day or two
Walking in someone else's shoes
I think they'd stumble and they fall
(they would fall, fall)
Chorus:
Lifestyles of the rich and the famous
They're always complainin'
Always complainin'
If money is such a problem
Well they got mansions
Think we should rob them
Well did you know when you were famous you could kill your wife
And there's no such thing as 25 to life
As long as you've got the cash, to pay for Cochran
And did you know if you were caught and you were smokin' crack
McDonalds wouldn't even wanna take you back
You could always just run for mayor of D.C.
I'd like to see them spend a week
Livin' life out on the street
I don't think they would survive
If they could spend a day or two
Walking in someone else's shoes
I think they'd stumble and they fall
They would fall
Lifestyles of the rich and the famous
They're always complainin'
Always complainin'
If money is such a problem
Well they got mansions
Think we should rob them (rob them)
(They would fall, they would fall)
Chorus 1/2:
Lifestyles of the rich and the famous
They're always complainin'
Always complainin'
If money is such a problem
You got so many problems
Think I could solve them
Lifestyles of the rich and famous
We'll take your clothes, cash, cars, and homes just stop complainin'
Lifestyles of the rich and famous
Lifestyles of the rich and famous
Lifestyles of the rich and famous
i'd rather be both. i probably wouldn't use the above the lawness but it's good to have something to fall back

And good charlotte proves that?
Anyway. I'd rather be rich, because no one is (or should be) above the law. It's a higher level of unfairness, so I choose the lesser evil

If it includes the laws of nature, I'd like to be above the law.
Personally I think I'd make an excellent omnipotent being. Don't you? :)
Just imagine how fun life would be with me as Almighty. :D

The mega-rich are above the law, but within reason. They can't exactly wlak down the street gunning people down and throwing bundles of money at the police, but with expensive lawyers and the respect the legal system gives to "pillars of the community", you have a far greater chance to evade justice.

Id rather be above the law. Much more convenient

Really, I'd rather be on hand for the arrival of the Xist ships. From a safe distance, of course. Then it won't matter who was rich or who was above the law, 'cause if you didn't send your thirty bucks in to Bob by then, well...
 You'll fry. :p
Id rather be rich and keep my morals. Being above the law would mean you could hurt and harm as many people as you wanted...who needs that at least being rich you could help instead of harm.
But the other way you could prove that you really have got morals and do not just act according to the law.

Ah, but, those two things are different??
I see that every rich is above the law, and that everybody above the law is rich.
So?
Both, definantly. Could I be immortal as well?

I'd rather be rich. I don't go around breaking the law anyway. If I were rich that would mean I wouldn't have to work for the other man.. which means I wouldn't have to take drug tests.. which mean I could smoke some pot and not have to worry about losing my job, and since I'm rich I'm sure I could grow a few of my own pot plants (for personal use and the joy of watching my beautiful buds grow) in or under my home somewhere and not be caught. So I guess that would be the only law I would intenionally break.. and I feel I could slide by on that one. :)

Wait, if rich people are above the law, what was all this antitrust shit flying around about Microsoft a few years ago? If rich people are above the law, why did Bill Clinton almost get impeached for getting a hummer in his office? If rich people are above the law, why do actors and athletes regularly get arrested for drugs?
Seriously people, use your heads.

Ahhh, but people above the law would be rich....what's to stop them from, say, robbing a bank? Or embezzlement, etc...
If I had to pick one; above the law.

I'm sure everyone who is 'above the law' is rich. And corrupt.
That doesn't justify a statement like "the rich are above the law," because I'm sure only a small percentage of them are.
I'd rather be above the law. Then I could do anything I want, and take anything I want, including money.

I'd rather be rich, since I wouldn't want to be above the law (after all... Why would I want to harm people?).
Really though, money isn't that much better either, there are many things I'd rather have than either.
Certainly an interesting response from everyone. I have noticed that some assume that being above the law automatically means that you are going to hurt people. Do you mean by physical violence or something else?
However if you are above the law, doesn't that mean you are not breaking the law if you, for example, go into a hardware shop and walk out with the most expensive power drill, or park ON the pavement where pedestrians are supposed to walk?
