How much do you bend or break rules? (in real life, not just here)

Most of bend or break the rules at work, home, here, and elsewhere at least some of the time.

How much do you bend or break rules? (And as the title states, I do mean in general in real life, not just here.)

I play by no one's rules. Not even my own.

That's what rules are for, I thought?

That's what rules are for, I thought?

But that's not the question (unless you mean you break the rules whenever you can, just to break them...)

When you say rules, are you also referring to laws?

Usually only when the benefits for me outweight the risks of potential consequences. And sometimes when I think the rules are stupid.

To some degree - lets go with minor misdemeanors.

I only break the rules when they put me in danger, or when they interfere with my morality. I have an extraordinary amount of patience (I've been told) so as long as someone is willing to explain something 'illogical' to me until I understand at least what the original point was then I've no problems with it.

Breaking the rules just to break them, or for your own personal gain, is not ok in my book. If I see a close friend or family member doing just that I will ask them why they felt the need to put themselves above it. Even with the little stuff (I remember asking my father when I was small why he was cheating at a computer game, what's the point of breaking the rules like that to be super powerful when it's meant to be fun and a challange? It's been like 15 years and I still don't have an explanation that makes sense to me).

It also kinda depends on who is giving you the rules. If it's a teacher, then very likely there are some really freaking good reasons why the rules are in place. If it's a corrupt government then I'd rather leave the country than have to worry about breaking their rules. Every human on the planet makes mistakes, even the ones who make the rules, so you have to think about it but you can't be hypocritical or selfish/greedy if you want to live in a society that works. Even with the little stuff.

IMO :)

Being Bipolar, I do get these episodes that are called MANIC> During such times I think the rules are for mere mortals and not myself. When functioning on all eight cylinders (as opposed to 23 out of 8 when I'm manic) I'll break the rules if I think they're illogical. In my dark and shady past I was a morphine addict..during that time I broke the rules regularily and with impunity. I got away with it 99.9999999% of the time too. I was a bastard.

depends on the rule. if its stupid or wrong then i'll break it by doing what i think is right. however most of the time i stick to a close approximation of the rules - not breaking them but i trying to test the limits :P
