Hey, I'm curious about just how many people I can mobilize in my military here. The general rule I see going around is that the max you can field is 5% of your population, and I'm curious as to what 5% of my main nation and my two main colonies is. The total pop together is: 5.662 Billion.

So, can anyone help?

Take a zero off the end and then halve it.

Or if that's too difficult, take two zeros off the end and times by five.

I know that during World War II Canada had 1.1 million men and women in uniform in Europe when our total population was only 12 million. (In 1939, not 1941...*poke*). That's 9 percent.

20m men and women passed through the Red Army in WW2, of whom 14m were in uniform at the end of the war (the rest being dead). That's more like 15% of the population. It's called a War Economy, and means a deliberate rapid bankruptcy, in the interests of survival. There is no way to sustain that.

I would say that in a healthy industrial nation with a professional volunteer army, even in wartime you would be looking at 1%, if you are fighting in an expeditionary capacity and not on your own territory.
