So, I've been looking at purchasing a bike here in the next few months and I've narrowed it down to these two models.

Not familiar with their street bikes, but if their ATV's or Dirt bikes show any comparison .. I'd go with Yamaha.

If your really into the crotch rockets, get the Yamaha.

If you want more of the Superbike persona, personally, I'd say get a Ducati 9600.

I am a lover of organ donors, but the Ducati 9600 is absolutely beautiful, visualy and mechanically.

Ahhh, if only I could afford a $12k bike...

I don't ride a bike, but I guess it's Japanese engineering vs Italian style for you.

None of the above.

So then what would you suggest? No bike at all?

Those things are prices like small to medium cars in Australia.

They're like the price of small to medium cars in the USA, too.

I'm sure it varies, but in my area you can usually get a 600cc Japanese sportbike brand new for under $9,000 USD out the door, and if you're willing to look at last years model, or something with a few thousand miles on it, you can pay a lot less.

Depending on your age/nation/experience, one of the bigger expenses of a sportbike can be the insurance. I've had friends that paid $120/month to own a sportbike, and $200/month to insure it. It eases up after you've been riding awhile.

Personally, of the ones you've listed, I like the R6, but the Gixxer, CBR600F4i, or Ninja are all very good bikes.

AS the owner of a fine, high strung Italian machine (68 FIAT Dino..yeah, the one with the Ferrari engine) I reccomend you get the Ducatti. Italian machines are just so much more fun than anything out of Asia (I love Asian autos & bikes BTW..Italian machines are just the best)

Yeah...but they're so expensive.

One of the guys in my shop is selling his '01 R6 for $4k...so I'm thinkin I'll pick that up. Ducati's just cost waaaay too much. I cant afford one.

Expenisve...without a doubt. My car was a 10 year labour of love restoration, with an incredible amount of help by way of both labour and parts from my dad a couple of his friends. Otherwise I'd never be driving such a wonderful car. (Which is only now begining to catch up in price relative to value...another reason I could afford the thing in the 1st place) Fine machines do tend eat up the cash.

Go for the R6, I'm sure you'll love it and enjoy it immensely. Its quite the amazing ride itself.

Yeah, it's really the bike I want. Depending on when I can get a loan for it, I might not be riding it for a few months afterwards (depends on my knee)...most likely I'll pull the body off and repaint it a custom color. One of the guys from work did that on his bike and did a really great job.

As for fixing up a vehicle...I totally understand. Most people cant understand why I still have my beat up truck after all the repairs I've had to pay for. When I get it finished, all the pain will definately have been worth it.
