My Sweet New Ride

Note: Pics to come later.
So I went out and bought myself a new car today. Well ... not new ... it's a 2002.
Anyway, it's a red 2002 Ford Escort zx2. Here's a pic of one pretty much just like the one I got today:

Drives great, superb gas mileage (will be better after I make some improvements), and comfortable as hell. Not tremendously fast (4 cyl, 2.0 litre engine) but I think I can improve that a bit, too. Never cared about top end speed, myself. I'd rather hop off the line quick. :D
Anyway ... pics of mine later. woo!

Does it have a manual transmission?

5 speed w/OD. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nice. I just picked up a Ford myself, an old 93 Crown Vic. Its neither quick nor fuel efficient, but should be reasonably cheap to maintain and repair.
We've also got a Toyota with 200k miles on it. Pound for pound, I like compacts better, but I'm happy with my grampa's car.

Overdrive. Means that the final ratio is less that 1:1.

Good show sir. I've often thought that the US could go a long way towards reducing fuel use simply by making all cars manual.

Nod. I really, really wanted a hybrid, but they're still too out of my price range. Maybe in a few years when they're more prolific.

It's always funny talking to americans about cars though, because a 2.0 Litre engine is considered fairly large over here. Saying that, one of the fastest cars I ever had was "only" 2.0 litres.

Nice-
For the first time in a long ass time I'm sporting a plain jane ride, like so (http://www.germanpartshaus.com/320x240/001677_df.jpg), though mine's white-to increase the bland. I still have the stylin' '67 Red and White VW microbus with shovels rakes and other impliments of de-struction-but now through events oddly out of my control I have that thing too.

Grats on the new ride Keru. Hope it serves you well for many years/miles, whichever comes first. :)

Not exactly mine but identical, except mine's got nicer alloy wheels.

Right on man. Congrats and enjoy the driving.
Me, I just spent $$$$$ on a new paint job for my old car, which is looking much more Pebble Beach Concours, thank you very much. Feels good having something new (or looking new)

Now, now... be nice.
I could have said the same thing...but since my car is Italian I thought it wiser to refrain. Besides, its a NEW RIDE. Let him wallow in the glory for a while. Reallity will catch up all too soon, regardless of the make of car. (Unless it were a Ferrari or Aston Martin, in which case reallity would be easily combatted with all the cash you'd need to own such a thing in the first place. And yes, Ferrari's and Astons spend just as much time in the shop as a Ford Escort, trust me.)

That is actually a very, very awesome ride. :) I'd take one in a heart beat.
What I really want is this (only I want black):

1972 Chevy Camaro. Woo! I'd like to find a junker and make a project of restoring it. I love muscle cars. I saw a chasis at a junkyard for $200, but I just don't have the time for the project right now. I'll do that as my mid-life crisis ride. ;)

Hey now ... my friend drives an Escort and has put 300,000 miles on it and it still runs great. If you take care of a Ford, it'll last. :p

Meh... in hard cornering there's a bit of roll but otherwise good. The ride is pretty stiff though. The electric steering isn't everyone's favourite but I lke it. If you want really good handling you'd want the RedLine model.
