Never been there. I was supposed to go there for my friend's wedding. He married a Venezuelan girl. Unfortunately, thanks to Chavez, she and her family sold their property in a hurry and moved to Florida right before the wedding.

Chavez is helping his nation by now groveling at the feet of the Bushites. He is spreading the revolution and getting Latin America out from under the fett of the unhuman nation that is the United States.

What a pile of nonsense... Chavez is screwing his nation and sending people even deeper into poverty. And he hasn't spread revolution anywhere in Latin America. All he has done is pissed off his neighbors, and his ally down in Brazil is in trouble for financial corruption.. so much for this revolution BS. You really need to understand latin american politics..

Chavez is buying the people's votes and driving away foreign investment. Ten years from now Venezuela will be the poorest nation in Latin America despite it's oil.

Not to mention brutalizing and repressing the opposition and rigging elections, and ruling with an iron fist while corrupt government corporations pilfer wealth far greater than any taken by "evil" multinationals.

He'll pull wool over the people's eyes with his lavish public works spending, and then cut it off once they can't remove him from power. He'll pour that wealth in to private accounts and live in luxury while his people suffer under his "revolution".

Intriguing though this view of Latin American politics is, I have read about this guy, and the Influence of America I do feel we're straying somewhat from the point.

I say put them both on a ring... and let the Republican Presidential Candidate try to kill Chavez...on his own.

Reminds me of one President of Ecuador.. Abdala Bucaram. Except Chavez will last longer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdalá_Bucaram

"He is commonly known – and was, even during his presidential term – by the epithet El Loco: "The Madman". Some people just refer to him by his first name, "Abdalá"."

He was a total nutcase, like Chavez.

While you are there and hiking and whatnot, would you please ask a few of the poor locals what they think of Chavez, why they think that and how has anything improved since he has been in power.

Hope you have a nice trip.

Oh garbage,

the coup leaders "suspended" the constitution when they
announced he had "resigned"

Once back in power he of course reinstated it
and if he hadn't there couldn't have even been a recall vote.

Which he won and fairly once those people who voted from
beyond the grave or had never existed or the extra votes of those
who voted more than once were removed.

The tv stations are still spouting purely anti chavez propaganda but
gosh despite their owners involvement in the coup they are still operating.

There is no other country in the world where that would happen
including the US.

Dunno if someone else said it, my apologies if so.

Watch out for Pat Robertson and roaming fundies with Barett light-50's.
Apparently they don't know how to read Executive Order 32066.

Bring plenty of insect repellant...

Wear long socks, and tape the bottoms of your pant-legs to your shoes/socks (IE, make a seal)

Wear a hat

Bring an extra stick of deodorant to loan to those you come in contact with (they might stink). hehe

Since South America is not known for it's lack of insects with unpleasant payloads, might need to check vaccines which could help.

If you are taken hostage by counter-revolutionaries, hide any valuables in your anus.

Oh, and make sure to carry extra prescription medication. *nod* :)

You might try posting this question in a more helpful forum. The one that Fodor's (http://www.fodors.com/forums/?lid=Forums&lpos=top_nav) runs is a alternative. I think you'd get less noise and more advice.
