Never Again

Doctor God

How hastily we reach for our saber,
To wield it against our neighbor,
Yet the blood of the fallen has yet to dry.
How quickly the ranks are refilled
And sent to conquer once more,
When the bones of their predicessors
Have yet to turn to dust?
How soon we forget the horrors
With which we were familiar.
Never again, the people cry,
Will such tragedy afflict the world.
Thus with this solemn oath,
The memory of the past is forgotten.
How easily this promise is made,
And how easily is it broken.
The whole of the earth unites for this spectacle.
They preach 'Never Again' with such conviction
Though they speak those words,
They know not of their meaning.
How empty be the human mind,
And how full be the graves!

I like it as well, did you compose it yourself?

I did, it's sort of a hobby.

Sorry, I see almost all poetry as pretentious garbage, but what do I know? :p
Plus, it doesn’t even rhyme.

Yes. It seemed like you couldn't figure out whether or not you wanted to rhyme. You spelled "predecessors" incorrectly. It's choppy. The words you used were too cheap for poetry. You couldn't figure out whether or not you wanted to give the poem rhythm. It sounded unnervingly cliché. It was just okay. Nothing special. Kind of annoying to read. You asked.
