And why "this Earth"? Are there others?

I don't see why there isn't one for what's obviously the correct answer, 4,522,643,096 years, or about 0.84 eons.

There are a few things going on. First, you're assuming that the Earth and the Universe are the same thing, which they are not. The Universe is older than Earth by quite a bit.

There are a few problems in trying to determine the age of the Universe. I don't know what it says in the Kennedy Space Center, but if it's a quote or one of those things they write as dedication on buildings, it's probably outdated.

Astrophysicists try to determine the age of the Universe by several means, but it's hard to come with a definite answer and that's why it has "moved" over the years, as our understanding of the Universe and our tools to measure it improve. The most accepted range nowadays is between 13 and 15B years, but I remember the 20B from a few years ago and is possible that they haven't changed it from text books yet. No biggy, since it's supposed to be an approximation and not a set in stone thing.

Well, there's the fossil record, genetic divergence amongst modern species, and those pesky antibiotic resisting bacteria popping up all the time. All these point very strongly towards an adaptation / change mechanism in living beings and to the creation of more complex life from simpler organisms.

He's actually right, from my macrouniverse the earth is only eleven of our years. It's funny, to me you know, your perception of time. It's naive for you to think that you are on the highest plane. It is not uncommon for the beings of my planet to communicate with those from both Higher AND lower planes. Vetalia actually comes from the level two above mine and Czardaian Envoy is the only one seperating my existance from your's. Your universe though is a mystery to mine, we have thusfar been unable to discover the correct variables to input into our algorhythms so that we can bypass the time shifts caused by your unusually weak black holes and low speed of light. My cousin is actually a top scientist in the matter and has been able to determine that your world is actually just over 4.5 billion of your years and your universe's age is about equal to one lifetime here. Good luck with your 'wormhole' research. (P.S. It's a dead end.)

As for age of the earth, short answer- carbon dating.

If Genesis is literal: 6000-8000

If Genesis is metaphorical: Several billion, if radiocarbon dating is accurate (ok, so it's not, but it can give a general estimate).

According to many limiting factors (i.e. the distance of moon from earth, the decreasing magnetic field, the relatively small amount of dust on the moon and sediment on the ocean floor, and various other factors), I believe the earth is less than 10,000 years old, (most likely around 6,000-7,000 years old).

The many factors which are included in my belief of a young earth have been scientifically confirmed, and pose serious problems for the timescale (and thus, the entirety of the theory) of evolution. I believe this without regret, and challenge any to prove this to be an incorrect assertion.

20 Billion...but for 15 Billion of that it was a marble like game piece used by unfathomable ancient gods in an unfathomable ancient game. For the last 5 billion or so its been sitting in a drain pie, after it fell off the game board and rolled down into the cosmic gutter.

Well, the good news is that (at the moment) more than 84% of the people who answered the poll have it right. Meaning they picked either 4.5 billion or 4.6 billion - the age of the earth is commonly accepted to be somewhere between these two ages, so both answers are more-or-less right.

It's good to know that the educational system hasn't completely broken down.

Carbon dating is accurate up to about 50,000 years, so carbon dating evidence proves that the Earth is at least that old. Uranium can be usec to date rocks at 3 billion years plus or minus two million. These are only two of the huge number of pieces of evidence against a young Earth. How about continental drift, is that a myth too?

As for the magnetic field, this is known to reverse periodically., and you seem to assume that the last reversal is when Earth was created. I've never heard of the sedimentation or dust evidence you mention.

No, it can't. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiocarbon_dating)
Carbon dating is just a general term for all radioactive dating. Carbon is only used on living things. When taking the age of rocks, there are other radioactive materials which are used, which have much longer half lives. For example, Rubidium has a half life of 4,900,000,000 years, meaning it could comfortabely date anything 4.5 billion years old.

Current measurements of red-shift and the Hubble Constant suggest the universe is 13-14bn years old with a 95% level of confidence. Read up on Monte Carlo simulation if you think that means there's a 5% probability of it being 6000 years old.

As for the Earth, 4.5-4.6bn years old, hard to be precise on those timescales.

All over the world sediments are forming and creating layers. There are many places where you can dig and see last year's layer, the layer from the year before that and so on. In some places you can dig down and clearly see tens of thousands of layers, which suggests the layering process has been going on for tens of thousands of years. Now if one place we can see a layer forming every year, and there are twenty thousand layers, this is good evidence that the world is at least 20,000 years old. If the world is only 6,000 years old, where did the 14,000 extra layers come from?
