Notebook
The methodology/ mentality of the Notebook is hard to describe. The form is easier. Its a notebook, which contains picures, phrases, sketches, quotes, a couple of verses here and there and an ongoing story that'll slowly reveal itself as you read on. You can check out some pages here:

Kind of a House of Leaves feel to it. I'd get rid of the second page all together. The wink to an acknowledged audience belies the 'found art' feel to the rest of it, that it really is just a notebook that you found on the bus that reading it eventually revealed a story. The second page is a kind of curtain that seperates it-makes it a book again and I think that the overall effect and statement, that there is art in everyday lives/objects that is only available on examination, is weakened by an introduction. You want the reader to have to wonder if you just found the book and decided to publish it.

I've had the comparison to House of Leaves before actually, so I'm gonna try and find a copy of that to check out.
The second page, I've had some people who really liked it, and some who didn't like it at all. At some point I'm gonna want to reassess the book as a whole.

Don't sweat the comparisons, really. I only mentioned it because it has found narrative as part of the story. In no way am I suggesting that yours is 'just like' or even 'been done' or what ever the bitter nattering neighbobs of negativity say when they encounter someone elses work. The similarity is really only in the 'found' nature with it's requisite non-sequitors that eventually mean something. It just came to mind, and that might even be in part to me just finding my copy and my coworkers reading it. For the record, I already like yours better than I liked the other...

The House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. (Brother of singer Poe). HoL is ones of my favourites.
It will be fun for you to fill the pages of the book with randomness, and when you're done with it, you should go set it somewhere. It would be interesting for a passerby to pick it up and share it with others.

That's lovely Spoffin! my advice to you is to keep it simple - not "randomness" but not entirely linear either. Anyway, keep it updated for us, and your handwriting is fine.

It's a fairly popular book, you should be able to pick it up at any largish bookstore in the fiction section. Use the info that the above poster gave you.
or here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0375703764/qid=1125098106/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5349276-9131255?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

Sorry, I was asking if you meant "found" as in "discovered" or "chanced upon", as opposed to bought or borrowed.

My bad. No, a lit teacher friend of mine who was enthralled by the idea that tatoo artists liked it.

Sorry, I just want to know, are people reading these and not posting, or is it just that no one is reading it?I've been reading it, but I'll be gone soon (battery's almost dead ;) ) I have something similar, but I'd need a scanner to get it up. It's at about 37 pages (DIN A4) long by now. I call them my thought pages... :D

Well, I'd love to see them if you can. Try a school or library for a scanner maybe. A digital camera should also be able to get some fairly clear images, so long as you have a moderately good resolution and can hold it steady enough.

Thanks. I took a really long time before I'd show this to anyone at all, and then it was only to just a very few people, but I kept getting positive reactions so I thought what the hell?
Anyway, next three pages

I'm going to try to get a couple pages scanned when I go back to Berlin for the German elections.
The pages are completely in blue ink, something I adopted to ensure some kind of uniformity...

You should keep it up. I've never posted any of my writing online (disincluding lyrics to songs I helped write, but that was generally in mp3 format). Although I did have an idea once about e-mailing two lines of a poem to one person, having them add 2 lines and sending it to one person and seeing how many people would keep it up, provided that they keep everyone who sent it to them in the cc: line.
I don't know that anyone would do it.
One that's gonna go a bit later on

Well, I dunno, I mean judging by the things I get forwarded, it seems that some people will send anything...
The problem actually is what to do if someone breaks a link in the chain.

Is it bad to say I am totally and utterly befuddled by this? :p Either my cold is making me incapable of thought or I've completely missed the point.
Is it bad to say I am totally and utterly befuddled by this? :p Either my cold is making me incapable of thought or I've completely missed the point.
What makes you think there is a point? Why would what I think its about be more useful or important than what you think its about?
If I could explain all of this in just a couple of dozen words, then I don't think there'd be any point in creating it at all
Just react to it, any reaction is legitimate.
