Well, if you didn't hear about what happened on Iron Maiden's last day of performance at Ozzfest, here's the story.

http://www.livedaily.com/news/Iron_Maidens_Ozzfest_finale_turns_ugly-8652.html?t=5

So, what do think of this incident?

I, being a Iron Maiden fan, know that the British flag has ALWAYS been used during The Trooper, and it has nothing to do with the war, as Sharon implied. Seems like the woman doesn't know a joke from an insult.

What the hell is Maiden doing associating with a bunch of sad, sick, publicity hungry loosers like the Osbournes? Ok, maybe Ozzy had SOME credibility once, but that was a long time ago. And the rest of them? They're famous for being idiots, nothing more.

Sharon is a dumbass. Iron Maiden has used the British flag for "The Trooper" multiple times. The Osbournes just need attention. That is why she did it. Cause her husbands band is nothing but a bunch of loosers now. Black Sabbath has never and will never beat Iron Maiden.

It doesnt matter wether or not your a fan of either band.

To me, it sounds like Bruce has a burr up his ass about a couple of things.
I highly doubt Sharon would purposefully sabotage Iron Maidens set.

Dont get me wrong, I have nothing but respect and admiration for Dickenson and the rest of Maiden.....

,,,But when your band has to apologize for your antics....maybe you were being an asshole?

All this aside....

Screw the Osbournes tv show.

Screw Sharon Osbourne...

But Black Sabbath is one of the best bands ever....and as much as I like and rspect them..Maiden cant hold a candle to anything Sabbath did with Ozzy.

I like Maiden too....but Maiden never accomplish half of anything that Sabbath did.

I wouldnt call any of them "loosers" (its losers, BTW)

Sabbath are the godfathers of metal.

Maiden ... a group of decently talented guys, who had a small handful of decent albums.

Thats about it.

Nope.

Not at all.

Lets see...

Two good albums with DiAnno...

Powerslave was great..
Number of the Beast was decent...
Somewhere in Time was ok...

Seventh Son of a 7th son sucked...

as has every album since.

Wich is why they have been dropped from every label they have recorded with.

Maiden were great..dont get me wrong..but they cant hold a candle to What Sabbath accomplished.

Thats not opinion...thats a fact.

Hmmm. Lets see here...Sabbath INVENTED a genre. Maiden....made/makes music in that genre.

How can anyone seriously mention Iron Maiden as being in any way superoir to Black Sabbath?

yep. I've never really liked Maiden. They have a couple of good songs but...no.

And you're right. Sabbath released their first album when mr. Dickinson was only 12 years old. That ought to say something, who's following who...

I am speechless. All this Iron Maiden is decent but Ozzy-era Sabbath is so awesome ONLY because they invented doom metal?

Oh wait. I'm sure you're the same kind of guys who think that because a band does it first that they do it the best. So I'm sure your favorite bands may include the Beetles and Led Zeppelin.

Well in that case... Yeah... I'll leave it at that. There's nothing I can say, but shake my head slowly from side to side and sigh, disapprovingly yet dismissively.

I think Iron Maiden's singer just was a dumb-ass on tour.. and got a little paranoïd thinking sharon set all the sound problems and egg throwing up..
I'd say Bruce Dickinson made the problem.. and the audience solved it for him.. too bad for the neutral audience who just liked to see a band, and too bad for the rest of iron maiden.. if they have another opinion, wich they do maybe because of the apologies they made for their singer.

btw, I live in Holland, a couple of months ago there was a festival, Fields of Rock, with ozzy and rammstein in the finale.
I certainly liked rammstein more, but well, I'm just a 17 year old, so ye..
Rammstein played on a stage next to Sabbath, and they would begin as soon as ozzy stopped.
I can tell you, rammstein is big here, but a bunch of people stayed with ozzy till the last note before they walked 100 metres to rammstein. and I even heard alot of people went home after Sabbath

So, I dont think Sabbath is crap, they still have fans, and they're damn good still.. better as Iron Maiden for sure.

Well...that fact does help them considerably, but no music fan with an ounce of sense will say that Sabbath hasnt earned every accolade theyve ever received.
Thier music made them great.
Nothing else.

Well..first off music lover..its spelled BeAtles. (capitalized for you notice)

Secondly, Led Zeppelin werent quite pioneers, even if they did do some truly great stuff.
Most of thier riffs were ripped straight from blues.
Its how they played them that made them great.

Im guessing your ripping on Sabbath becuase your into modern doom metal, probably of scandinavian origins, that have oppressing griding distortion, that cuases the bass and guitar to be nearly indistinguishable, and of course, every drummer has to be a Dave Lombardo double-bass clone, and every single lead singer howls in a gutteral tone, grunting and mumbling nearly unintelligble lyrics......and you think its the best stuff ever done.

In wich case....umm yeah......I also will shake my head.

Its a matter of opinion.

Maiden is and always has been with EMI or one of their sub-lables (Sanctuary, their own label is affiliated with EMI). They are one of the most consistent money horses for EMI.

I agree that maybe successors can eclipse founders. Sabbath may have "invented" metal, but this invention itself is based on blues. Maiden originally owns as much to Sabbath, as to Purple, Zepplin and Punk(!). They continually developped their style and have been around for over 25 years. Sabbath's glory days ended in 1979.

Which band is better? This depends entirely on personal taste.

Im fairly certain they were dropped from EMI, after "Fear of the Dark".

They may have been re-offered a contract with them since then, but Im pretty certain such was the case.

See..I would say that Maidens "glory days" ended with the release of Seventh son.

Even die hard maiden fans slander that album.

Also...."Never Say Die", was released in 1979, and was soon followed by "Born Again", wich featured Deep Purples' Ian Gillian on vocals.
Not my favorite...

However...after that...Ronnie James Dio joined them for Mob Rules, and Heaven and Hell", and according to record sales alone..I would hardly dismiss that from any inclusion of "glory days".

So..Sabbath has been around the scene since 1969.. far far longr than Maiden.

As to wich is better.....THAT, is entirely a matter of opinion.

Nope, I know a guy who worked for EMI and was responsible for the band in Germany during the time of Blaze.

I think it is excellent. In fact my personal favourites are:
Brave New World
Seventh Son
Somewhere In Time
Dance of Death
No Prayer for the Dying

Perhaps it's just me. I always thought that Sabbath had lost it after Ozzy left. I didn't like the later stuff at all.

Sabbath is my favorite band, bar none...but most Sabbath fans prefer either Dio, or Ozzy....

I prefer Ozzy.

I like the Dio stuff...but it doesnt compare with the songs they wrote with Ozzy.

After Dio left......everything has sucked, since.

what the fuck? no band deserve that - especially not one as great, experienced and as loved as maiden are
and i would have expected better from the osbournes/sharon

that said, in bruce's defence, the ozzfest does seem a tad wank
and i can hardly believe bruce would do something like this - he's a friendly, intelligent bloke who certainly doesn't seem the sort to do any of the shit sharon was describing... so either bruce has had some kind of major reversal of character, or sharon is exaggerating shitloads

this is sad, and if the two are going to be polarised: ozzy vs maiden, all i have to say is Up the Irons! (much as i do love ozzy)

Nope, not necessarily. Don't get me wrong I like Sabbath and I to a lesser degree I like Led Zeppelin (don't like a lot of the Beatles stuff, but they've got a couple songs that are good).

The point I was making is the fact the sole arguement of many other of the people who decided to call Iron Maiden "worse" than Sabbath in this thread, is that Sabbath MUST be better because they were around before Maiden. I'm merely saying first is not necessarily best and there are a lot of bands who have improved on the stuff bands like Sabbath did.

And do not think that all of modern metal is the same shit you probably saw when you were flipping channels and you came upon headbangers ball on mtv2 in recent days.

Suffice it to say there are a lot of talented bands out there that I feel can easily be Sabbath's equals, if not surpass them completely.

I still like all- Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Iron Maiden-I love Bruce Dickinson's "Accident of Birth".

Sharon Osbourne is a mean spirited and petty bitch. I wouldnt put anything past her. The only thing that was ever entertaining on the stupid reality show was Ozzy-the rest of the family absolutely sucks and would all be sucking dicks for beer money if it wasnt for Ozzy.

Heck yeah. I mean, if you listen to the side B single called "Mission From 'Arry" you'd know that Nicko McBrain is the short tempered one. That track is of Bruce Dickinson (singer), Steve Harris (bass player and band founder), trying to calm Nicko McBrain (drummer) down after a roadie accidentally messed up his drum solo to yell to him that Steve's bass was messed up and to make it longer.

Yeah, I just can't imagine Bruce acting like that. He was probably joking and she took it as an insult. It happens sometimes, but really, even if you hate Maiden, and even if I actually liked Sharon before I heard of this, those problems should be settled BEHIND THE SCENES. To bring it out so that people that payed good money to see Maiden get a messed up show is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Makes me wonder if Ozzy was really drunk when he tried to strangle her to death or if that's just what the papers were told...

I could see even a mild mannered man holding a pillow over her yapper.

Maybe they didnt have enough material worth discussing at the time. And Sharon, the PT Barnum of Metal, convinced Ozzy he had in fact, done this. Like he would remember.
